Any thoughts on this bumper?

I've seen a few angry grilles on Jeeps. There really is no accounting for taste.



You confuse years of combined experience with elitism. That happens when thought is clouded by emotion.

It's fine in the same way that it's fine if someone wants to opine that those bumpers are a POS.



Don't be obtuse. The terms Chinesium and Chinamart are used because the exact same bumper is sold with various branding by multiple "companies" while probably coming out of the same Chinese factory.



I hate to break it to you but the white-knighting for China shtick is tiresome.

To each their own how people set up their jeeps. Ive seen jeeps on here that I wouldn't drive same as I'm sure some people think the same about mine. That's why everyone should set up their jeep the way they want, not how others think they should.

I'm not confusing experience with elitism, the difference is clear. It's the same on any board though. Here it's Savvy and Currie, there it was Nightforce and Knights Armament.

Many don't know the difference between criticism and just being a dick about it. Thats the problem.

I'm not white knighting for China, I'm saying people should buy a product based on their needs and funds. If someone has limited funds and wants to buy a bumper for their jeep to fix it up how they like it, thats fine, they should do that. Not everyone is crawling over rocks or winching themselves up a cliff.

My two biggests reasons for not liking that bumper is that it is the most popular bumper for a Wrangler and it looks dumb on a TJ.

I agree, you see them everywhere and I dont find them aesthetically pleasing either but to each their own.

Well... since no one has said it, you should only ever buy currie or savvy products and spend 50k+ on your jeep or you will be shadowbanned according to the Rule 28 Line 7 of the "rules of engagement on Wranglertjforum"

Not at all. Actually I don't even find that bumper to be aesthetically pleasing but I've seen that model on many jeeps so I know others like them.

I do more reading than posting on this site and just as so many other sites for different hobbies, over time you always see more and more elitism when it comes to name brands in any certain industry. It just gets tiresome.

I know people like certain things and that's fine, but there are people who don't want to spend an arm and a leg for a name brand part but instead of others accepting it, they usually shame them for it which pushes people away from a hobby.

If someone wants a $150 bumper from Amazon, thats ok, its their jeep and I'm sure they would be happy with it. But what really gets me is the virtue signaling about a part being Chinese and knowing that person is riddled with Chinese appliances and electronics but acts like its just un-American to purchase a Chinese bumper. You know, people who use words like "chinesium" or "chinamart" as if everything they own is 100% American made.

I mean, I hate to break it to all you true patriots but there are Chinese parts on your jeeps and they were put on there from the factory. Shocking I know right?

You could be dealing with a safety issue when using it as a daily driver. I've seen Smitty 'rails' crumple like aluminum cans when getting minor rock contact. Do you really trust that bumper in a collision on the freeway? Can you call the company and see if it's been tested at 60 MPH? I wouldn't be surprised if it shatters into pieces if there's a real collision.

Any bumper on a TJ is screwed in a 60mph crash.
FYI, the crumple zones are in the frame.

I wasn’t insinuating that one should only buy U.S.-made stuff. Country of origin is besides the point. Cheap is universal, and having bought one of those bumpers for my last TJ, I can say that the type of coating put on those bumpers is low quality and quickly started peeling and rusting with no off-road abuse. And that’s not even touching the subjects of appearance, design, and off-road performance.

I’m not saying it’s wrong or not okay to buy that bumper. OP asked for everyone’s opinions and that’s what I gave em.

I know what you mean. There are varying degrees of Chinese quality based on the specs from the dealer. Ive seen it a lot with red dot sights that come from the same factory but some have better quality than others because the dealers specified better quality parts to be used with their brand.

I'm all about finding the best bang for the buck and getting my money's worth. I wouldn't spend $3,000 on a Currie lift when I could piece together a lift for $1,000 but I have no problem spending $4,000 building a sub MOA AR15. Its all about what it's worth to the individual I suppose.
