I'm not experienced in cage design but I think that's called a dead tube. You want to go from corner to corner for strength. So an X would be best but if you wanted to leave the center then do this:

I think those middle bars are usually triangulated via windshield bars which no one wants on a road vehicle.

But prolly doesn't matter because the sides are still big parallelograms.

i think an X would be best over head, the V creates a point that can transfer energy to the middle of the bar it lands on. the windscreen V is not inline to support that tube that direction. the windscreen V keeps the windscreen rectangle intact, keeps the header from coming down in and the dash bar from being pushed up or down across it's span.

i think those 2 bars will hold the A pillar forward in place what remains are very short spans between junctions. the long spot becomes over the door, that dead tube should hold it.

i'm gonna use a vertical at the windscreen. and tie A to B (along the floor) to C (over the hump). and see if i can fit an X in the B hoop.

got those bars positioned and tacked yesterday eve.
marked the spots i'd like to put the taillights, but not holes until i know the wheel cuts.
i also set a wheel in front of the axle hub and lifted it about what my up travel is and chalked a line. for a 1st cut on those rear corners.
almost got those rockers ready for trial fitting, hopefully this wkend.

so i talked to an old man at work that claims he's built a few race cars about this cage and any advice.

he says if i do the "dead leg", do the center inline. he also suggested the bends in the back are weak spot and needs tied in a manor to keep the bends from giving.

i been dickin around with detail crap mostly this wk.
worked on the fuel cell cover, and the deck it'll sit on.

been playin with patterns on the rear corners. i want a round tire cut not an oblong like a comp cut ( this means the rockers gonna extend back past the tub).
i think i got something i like, gotta go try it.
i laid out a 43" radius, and i have it marked to hang 3.5" from the tub edge. this gives me more than plenty of wheel space and compliments the height of the front fenders.
today i made up a couple filler tubes for the cage. 1 for the weak bend in back and another for between the dead legs like shown in post #484.

@mrblaine, sir could you plz share the longest length of rocker you might be incorporating to stretched rigs. the way things are working out i'm gonna be past the tub with my extended length.

is there a good way to support this from behind? is it something that even needs addressed? the rocker will be about 67" OAL.

I have never measured them. This would be the longest I've done but I'm kinda one of those who plays the hand I've been dealt. The rock rail wasn't long enough so I extended it.

really wondering if i should extend the torque box back, to lend support. i kinda need to replace some of it anyways (middle mount to back end).

here's what i got for that cut pattern.
i don't wanna come around that corner any more than needed. the tire will come in about 2" when it's on the hub face.
the cut looks kinda big but put's it more in relationship to what the front appears as, as far as arch height.

been workin on the rockers too, the guy in the heavy equipment area (presses n benders) keeps F'n up my pieces. he keeps f'n up the 2nd bend.
so i'm gonna get unconventional. i have 2 good parts for the sides, the bottoms will be a 2nd piece start.
post #460 suggested maybe 3/16" was a little weak for playin in rocks. so i'm gonna run the bend he keeps dorkin of the bottom and overlap the bottom 1.5" on the exterior, this is gonna all get stitched together (in and out) real nice and leave me a 3/8" edge to carry some impact along the bottom edge. at least that's what i'm convincing myself with.

i got a side panel hangin now it fits good. gonna cut the bottom plate for the body mounts and try a fitting tomrw eve.

Any time I've had a small custom bending job like that, I make a full scale piece on a chunk of 1/8" that has the perfect profile of the two bends and 3 faces so they can use it to check as they are bending up the piece.

i gave um 1. they messed up both big presses and have no idea how critical setting those beds are and refuse to listen. now they blew out a cylinder on 1 end of what was the good press. place is fallin apart fast.

i got body mount bracket blanks i can bend up and a few rubber mounts too , i'll see what i can fit, thank you.

i got my crap bent into something i can use. gonna fit it and mark spots to secure it, maybe gets some tacks on it.
i also picked up a stick of 1.75"x.120 DOM and cut 2-4'ers and prepped 1 end for a B pillar to C pillar horizontal brace. then cut a pair of 5'ers to bend for the A pillars.

today i'm working up the courage to go freeze my ass off and cut into my expensive corner armor.
gonna cut at my best mark and then lay the panels back to back and trace it. coming around those corners identically will be the tricky part. then mount a wheel and twist it both ways. gonna check all this with 1 side max droop and other max up.

well it wern't so bad. hard shit to rip, gotta move slow.
side by side, they came out real close. a touch here and there with a flap disk and they are good.

they are right down the line on whats left of the rear end, and i just gotta trim an inch off the body in the crown.
this wheels bolted on the hub face.

i moved the tail lamp in an inch.

alright took few days to get my shit together but corners are fit.
and here is a wheel at compressed strut length vs other end at max extension. i just get a slight rub of the biggest rubber nubs on the edge of the wide lugs.

trying to think this through............with no track bar, if i do get off level the axle may, let's call it lean a little bit, due to weight shift. so maybe just a bit more room around that back bend, is what i'm debating
the side looks fine, lots of room, wish i'da brung the bottom edge mark in an 1/2" and been dam near uniform all the way around but the rockers hangin out to far back already.

i can see a few oddities in my raduis' i'll have to smooth out.
