What did you do to your TJ today?

Sometimes it’s the little things. Jeep had window visors on the doors when I bought it last May. I absolutely hate them. When I took them off (in about 100 pieces) they left that nasty 3M tape behind. I couldn’t get it off with any product I tried, and it looked like crap for months. After seeing someone recommend the rubber wheels for sticker/decal removal for a drill in a thread somewhere, I took a flier on one. About 5 minutes of effort today, even with one hand in a cast, and they’re finally gone!

The best way to connect your negative winch lead, is to ground it to the frame as close to the winch as possible. Then have a short as possible heave duty battery to frame connection as well. This will give you a lower impedance than any cable.

Nobody does it that way. Why? Because running a dedicated negative cable is more reliable, despite having a higher impedance. Keeping high current grounds viable in a Jeep environment can be problematic. So I installed a direct negative cable...

HOWEVER - nothing says you can't do both! Then you have the best of both worlds.

Side view. Not concerned about chafing. Star washers used on both ends for good connectivity, plus I glopped the connections in an attempt to keep water out. Even if the entire thing eventually fails, the other lead going directly to the battery will still be there, and I'll enjoy the lower overall ground impedance in the meantime.

To make this truly complete, a larger than stock battery to chassis ground cable will also be installed.
After all the work you have done on your winch do you think you will use it?
 
Installed the cargo area Bedrug, detailed the interior, lowered my spare on the tire carrier, and removed the heavy cargo rack that was above the spare tire. I still need to clean and install the rear seat and put on the Trektop NX. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow if the wind dies down. It was way too windy today to work outside the garage. I need a new spare even though it's never been used. The PO told me it was ancient and needed replacing.... I just checked the date on the sidewall and it's from 2005! 😳

I hear you. I'm still waiting for a company to come up with the little side window retrofit. I miss those the most, specially when it's warm out

After all the work you have done on your winch do you think you will use it?
Ha! I'm hoping I don't have to, but if I need it, it will be there! I want to get one of those "anchors" or "augers" in case there's nothing nearby to attach to. I have a thing about getting stuck: I don't like it.

I need those too. How well do they conform to the windshield frame? The radius changes from bottom to top. I haven't seem a photo of them mounted.

Yeah that is BC rainforest terrain there, was a mossy playground. Full of trees, logs, roots and loose ground hahah

It is a a Utah Company , had the word Rock in the name, they build to order. Maybe he can post it, I don’t trust my memory.

We are about to install his OME lift also,

He has a really, really nice TJ, never abused. Not a speck of rust.

Really good guy too. Take time to meet other members...you will be glad you did.
 
Noticed some abnormal tire wear on the fronts. Thought I had it mostly dialed in. Hadn't been able to get it in to have the alignment checked. But with the Moab trip around the corner AND with it seemingly increasingly harder to drive down the interstate, I figured I should put a tape measure on the toe measurement. 1/2"+ toe-in, LOL. Waaaay off. Got it adjusted back to 1/16-1/18 inch and drove it. Seems much better.

I was sure it was within spec when I put the ZJ steering upgrade on it. Maybe the new hubs, new ball joints threw it out of whack. Can't recall if I rechecked it after those installs. Oh well. Replaced a couple vacuum line components for the cruise and HVAC supply. We'll see if I get any more bleed down of the HVAC box actuators to the defrost default on long slow uphill grades on the interstate. I have a Ford 6.0 diesel electric vacuum pump I can install in the system if it still has an issue.

I tried one of those with no luck. maybe I did it wrong? 😂

I started with the smaller one and worked my way up, I also tossed a door panel wedge behind the hinge so that I could add pressure from the back side to help me see when I got through the bolt, I was afraid to go to far into the bolt and hit the tube or screw up the bracket.

pressure washed, hand soaped, pressure rinsed, clay bar'd, hand carnauba waxed, hand buffed & treated plastics/tires with Lucas slick mist. managed to complete all the work and put the tools away right as it was getting too dark.

Have you removed the side and back windows? Just curious how hard it is to take out and put back in? Any input appreciated
I run the Rampage as well. It’s a piece of cake to pull the rear and side windows, a little bit more effort to reinstall. That’s the entire reason I went with the Rampage. It makes switching back and forth between a full top and a safari top very easy. Now, going back and forth between full top and full topless takes longer with the Rampage than it does with with the stock top.
 
I was paranoid about my hardtop hanging from juat straps, so I came up with some additional insurance. I ran some eye bolts through the ends of a couple 2x6’s. put one up near the windshield and the other near the back of the top. Screwed some more eye bolts into the rafters and used some chain to hold the 2x6’s. Once I get the top up, I put the boards and chains in place then lower the tops slightly until the chains and boards are holding the weight.

Mine is kept under the carport that is built onto the side of my workshop.
