Best Out of the Box Shocks for 4" lift, 1.25" body lift, and 35's

4" Rock Jock coils, adjustable track bars front and rear, and adjustable control arms. No body lift yet, but that will be one of the next upgrades. Currently have 35's on it and running 26psi. I want to say the uptravel was in the 6.5-7" range. I cycled the suspension when I put the coils and control arms on, but didn't write and number down, so going off memory. This is my first TJ and all the guys I wheel with have JK's, which I have one of those as well. Maybe it's not fair to compare the TJ to the JK, but the TJ is quite a bit harsher ride. For example, there doesn't seem to be much/if any bounce in the front end if I stand on the front bumper and put any weight on it. If I didn't know any better, I would say something might be binding up, but that doesn't appear to be the case.
Jumping on the front bumper doesn’t really mean anything. You probably dot weigh that much, and the spring rate is probably 180-200, so it’s not going to compress much more than an inch

Yeah, the travel is significantly less than the comparable Rancho’s, which causes hesitation.
True. That is the trade off with keeping the factory mounts. The shock that might have the better valving has a bit less travel.

Comfort and handling matters all the time. Travel only matters sometimes and it matters a lot less once lockers and good sway bars are involved.

I will say this, fwiw. Knowing what I know now and if my Jeep wasn't so far gone, I would seriously consider the Monomax.

Those look like the best option. Anyone, @Chris attest to how those Savvy Tuned Fox shocks run? Relative to the Rancho’s?
@rasband has the ~9" Foxes from Savvy. They are noticably nicer than the 5000x. But I'm not sure they are X times the cost nicer.

Unknown apples to unknown oranges, since we know nothing about the shocks and setups being compared.

Good point. Another note, my TJ is what many would probably consider to be on the light side. No armor or heavy steel bumpers. I'm currently shopping for those, but not looking to add a ton of weight over stock if possible. I would think a heavier setup might act different than a light one.

Has anyone run the bolt on resi"s ?

Are you trying to convince me to be the guinea pig? IDR anyone on the forum running the Monomax. I’ll have to think about the travel specs some more. If that’s my limiter when cycling and I add more bumpstop, it could help keep it out of the rear of the front fender. But there’s always this quest to have tires be the limiter, as little bump as possible, and 50:50 travel.

Honestly kind of nervous about changing anything. Everything is correct right now.

I ordered a pair for the front and they are suppose to be delivered tomorrow. For $120, it's worth a try. If I see a noticeable difference, then I'll spend the money to change out the rear too.

Pulled from the big shock list...

KYB Monomax

Front
565096
15.86" compressed
9.45" travel
25.31" extended

Rear
565097
15.27" compressed
8.47" travel
23.74" extended
These look like they would drop right into my current set-up. I don't mind being a guinea pig. Who wants to buy my brand new ranchos, which I feel are going to be too soft?

You might be a hero!

You too.

If I were going to 35s again, and I could go back in time, I'd make the jump to outboarded and tuned shocks.
