USPS Diminished Capacity

Outside of this bullshit little problem that has cropped up with lady dimwit, the reason we use USPS is speed, accuracy, and cost. Our attrition rate is less than 1 in a 1000 packages. That is being generous, actual is likely closer to 1/5th of that. Reality is that we have not had a lost, undeliverable, or damaged package in almost 2 years.

Before the virus bullshit, we could get parts coast to coast in 2 days for 10 day UPS prices. Apples to apples, UPS, et al are 5-10 times as high for same speed transit times.

If any carrier wanted to get close to that, we'd use them in an instant. Right now I'm subsidizing UPS by paying the freight cost difference over a 100 bucks for brake kits which is 1-100 dollars per kit.
Have you tried calling and speaking with a FedEx representative?

If you can show estimated mailings per week with an estimated sales revenue, a good rep can get you set up within a certain tier of pricing from the start. Last I worked with them, they give you 6 months (though maybe more nowadays) grace period to hit a certain sales number to retain your particular tier-pricing. Once you get solidified in that tier, you can only go up in their tier (unless your account goes inactive).

I gave up sending letters from my mailbox. They ignore them around here.

USPS is the only real option for small-ish packages. Once you get big and heavy stuff the other guys have some merit.

It's almost like they are understaffed and overwhelmed because they are saddled by onerous bureaucratic requirements created by politicians who at best don't know / don't care and at worst are committing sabotage to ensure that privatization is the only feasible option for future survival let alone excellence.

To be fair, have you been to a UPS Store recently? It's torture. FedEx has also been tremendously unreliable since the pandemic started, and Amazon drivers are pissing in bottles and shitting in baggies.

Not an excuse but that happens when USPS hands the mail to one of the contractors that have routes in certain areas. As soon as it is handed off, it gets shown as delivered. Not how it should be but helps to understand what is going on.
That's not necessarily true. I am a postal contract carrier and we have to carry and use the exact same scanners that postal employees carry on their routes.

I completely understand and agree with your aggravation with the lack of professionalism on display with your mail carriers and local post office.

If I were to pull something like that, I would find myself in breach of contract and likely out of job and monetarily responsible for the duration of the contract. All mail carriers are required to be able to lift mail trays weighing up to 70 pounds and carry mail bags weighing up to 35 pounds. So their "She's pregnant" excuse is 🐂 💩!!

Understaffed is probably not far from reality. The new PMG (Post Master General), even though they have been given more money than any other time in history, has cut hours back and tightened up the belt so to speak when it comes to hiring new people as the old guard retires. Our postmaster for example is retiring in June. Her boss's position is being cut due to the cutbacks so he is taking a step down to move here for the Post Master position.

They're screwing with the contractors too. They are trying to up the requirements of all the contract routes while not increasing the amount the contract pays. No negotiations, you either accept the new more costly requirements or they put the contract out for open bid.

At the rate they are screwing contractors anyone who lives in a rural area might want to brace themselves for the possibility of loosing mail delivery to their homes.

We're rural, and we've never had home delivery. we drive out to the Highway, about 2 miles, to get the mail. But the PO folks here are pretty good in comparison to the ones I've had in the city. I figure it's the smaller community, everybody knows everyone else, so nobody screws anybody. It comes back on ya too easily I suppose.

That, and it just seems like folks are just nicer all around. 😸

Don't worry @mrblaine, the USPS has it together over here on the east coast. My rear rotors that you shipped out on 16 April landed in the major metro city that's 45 mins from me on 22 April.

I'm still waiting for them... and USPS has not other info than 'we'll get them to you eventually' Oddly USPS got the rear calipers and pads to me pretty much on time.

Luckily the TJ is in pieces so I have plenty of other places to focus my attention while the USPS decides when they want to put on their big boy pants and move the box. Totally unacceptable.

Of course UPS was right on top of the VANCO kit and got it here safe and sounds on time. 👍

Occasionally I’ve sold junk on eBay and sent it usps. They pick it up, and several days after their website says I’ve printed the label and handed it to them they are still waiting on the package to be given to them? WTF?! I absolutely cannot wait till the government is responsible for my healthcare.

I'm aware and wish it would change. That is my number one customer contact. Did you send my rotors, my pads, my whatever because I got part of it, where's the rest? They all leave here always at the same time. USPS delivers them at different times, I don't know how to fix that.

Understand it's outside your control. A nice vent opportunity here.

I'm a HUGE fan of the USPS pre-COVID. I have a weird enjoyment of checking the mailbox at the end of the work day when I get home. Even with the 'Informed Delivery' from USPS where I know what will be in the box when I get home, I still enjoy mail.

I'm beyond frustrated on their service under COVID. Bull shit that FedEx can get a package from Europe to my house in 24 hours and I can't get my package that's sitting 45 mins away as of a week+ ago.

You're not alone in this middle finger from USPS. If you aren't Amazon, USPS will tell you where you can place your thumb.... On my Rockauto order with bearings, seal, and new mount plates for Dana 44 shafts - I have everything but the plates in hand -> So I may as well have nothing... USPS also has no idea when I'll get the plates. (n)

Maybe the Dana 44 rotors and Dana 44 plates will meet up and spend some quality time together in the USPS facility before they arrive here for their permanent emplacement.

Where I am at they will say the package has been delivered but nothing on the doorstep. It will show up the next day or day after...
Have to meet their metrics I guess.
That happens here a *LOT*. I dunno if they deliver it to the wrong address, then correct it the next day, or just scan it "delivered" and then don't. I've had two packages "delivered" on the same day - one actually was, the other showed up the next day. The other trick is when an incoming package arrives at Orlando - the nearest large hub, and instead of coming down to my local PO the next day like they usually do, it vanishes. One time for 5 weeks. That one magically re-appeared in Memphis, and then beat feet it down here pretty quick after that. How it got there and why it took 5 weeks Goddess alone knows...

USPS recently got new scanners for the carriers to use, and the new ones are a LOT more accurate with their GPS tracking. There has been MANY "Stand Up Talks" concerning the proper way to scan and deliver packages because there has been some (too many) carriers that have been shirking their duties because "they are running late", "can't find access the address or porch", or enter any other pathetic excuse there are a NUMBER of them. These new scanners are supposed to help "weed out" the BS... Basically lazy ass people not wanting to do their jobs!! It ends up over complicating an easy job for those of us that take our job seriously!

Our local post office - and our mail carrier - are tops. The substitute guy is "ok", but if something local gets screwed up, its almost always on his watch. Now what's going on in Orlando, I have no idea!

My little town only has contract routes, and mine IMO is the most fun of all. I get to literally play in the snow. These were taken Feb. 19th
