Oh man..that sucks! When I was a kid I loved going to the soo locks. I could watch the ships go by all day. In fact I got my mechant mariners card when I was 21. I had plans to go off and work the Ore freighters for the summers. But I blew my knee out running track in college and wasn't physically able to work that year.
Check out Bartact seat covers. A bit pricey, but I haven't heard one negative review on them. Think there is a seat cover thread on here about them.
The biggest downside is shipping cost or inability to get certain items.
We lived in Yellowknife for 10 years. Shipping, remoteness, similar. But I ran a lumber yard and the trucking company we used was pretty helpful. Plus we had an overnite air service. Check around. I'm sure with a government job there is no piggy backing of 4x4 persomal items but the local building supply etc might be able to help out.
Anytime we shipped to the Northern, fly in communities we would get a shopping list for everything from diapers to donuts. We did a curcuit picking up all the extras to fill the plane. My bet is someone has a pretty economical way to bring in those obscure items. Ask all the other newbies, nurses, teachers, check out how the other "transients" get those things required to survive. Heck, ask yer boss. Tell him the "Jeep" project is a cabin fever release project. Ya can go stir crazy when the sun never sets... or rises.
No, Denver, Florida, Salem.... they all beat North of 60. Up There, a TJ is a Prius. My YJ was a great commuter Up There. But for exploring think dogs, sleds, quads. North of 60 there are no areas closed to ORV, heck in Yelowknife, the NWTs biggest city, you can drive sleds anywhere except the 12 block downtown core. One thing is for sure indeed... You do live in the perfect place to own a Jeep!

A TJ is literally just a capable city vehicle.
ie, sled for the localsHow about a snowmobile, do you think that would be a decent vehicle for up there?

@Chris often suggests the IGEE seat covers for much cheaper than the Bartact
