After a long day of first world problems, the framer disappeared at one job, the city flood zone map doesn’t coincide with a clients written letter from engineering, another client being indecisive, everything on back order, etc.... to come home to an 80 degree night and clear my head with the top down really does it for me.

Most of our “problems “ in this country are just hassles, and what we can afford to do to escape is beyond a dream to many people all over the world.

I know you can wheel them hard and daily drive them and everything else , but to me , slipping out and with the TJ, the summer night air, a good CD and some back roads does me a ton of good. Any of you guys with me on this?

Love to hit a trail or back road in the TJ to disconnect. While being relegated to working from home at the height of the pandemic an hour plus from the trails, even taking a midday break to run errands - or even just go for a spin around town - with the top open in the winter and spring was just what the doctor ordered.

Yep until a Kangaroo hops out in front of me and freezes in the powerful factory headlights! :)

Both above posts are what I’m talking about. It just isn’t a normal vehicle.

It’s a time machine that makes me feel 21.

It instantly takes me worlds away from life’s stress.

It is the freedom of a motorcycle with being able to relax.

I’ve had 10 Jeeps in my life, and it’s always been this way.

I was trying to describe to a coworker the other day what it is for me that attracts me to driving my Jeep. Best I could come up with is it’s the same feeling I have sailing a boat, or riding the runners behind a team of sled dogs or riding a horse. I become part of it. It’s that I don’t sit inside and and watch the world go by. You feel the bumps and curves. The heat and cold. Take the top and doors off and smell the smells, hear the noises. It makes me happy.

That is an awesome description. Plus you are outside and inside at the same time, and moving and sitting still. Lay that on ‘em.

For sure, I agree, there’s something therapeutic about open air and also older vehicles. I also like that it’s more relaxed than riding a motorcycle. Especially with my auto lol

Funny you mention the motorcycle part. I love riding a motorcycle, however, the roads around here and the asshole drivers really don't let me relax and enjoy just cruising. With the top down and doors off, I get pretty close to that feeling, without having to worry if I'll topside on the next pothole that wasn't there yesterday.

My 8 year old boy said something pretty prescient for someone his age not too long ago when we were riding around in the TJ. He said "dad, I bet everyone who looks at us riding in the Jeep thinks 'I've always wanted one of those'".

I had an 85 year old woman tell me "Nice Jeep". I think it's the only vehicle that EVERYBODY knows it's a Jeep, The new Cherokee owners can't say that.

The only ones that EVERYBODY knows is a Jeep are the CJs and the Wranglers.

I'd be surprised if more than a handful of non Jeep owners recognized the older Cherokees as Jeeps. That fact that told you "Nice Jeep" tells me she might be one of them.

So true. Really the jeep is part of the American story and it’s certainly part of the American automotive story. I don’t know if there is any vehicle that’s more associated with being fun.

Selling my FLHTK Harley and moving back to a TJ was a no brainer. Riding two wheels for 55+ years was great, but being 70 and tooling around on a half ton bike was getting to be troublesome for me.
A cool night, top and doors off, a country road and some good music on four wheels =😁😁😁.
I love bikes, but more so off road than on. When I get on a street bike I sense impending doom.
