How can you tell what it's from ?
Just got home from Kaua'i. We took the Helicopter tour to the "Jurrasic Park" waterfall (Manawaiopuna Falls).
We landed in the grass about 150 yards from the falls. There is no landing pad as seen in the movie. I kinda doubt they even built one for the scene, it was probably CGI.

Figured I could post this here, still one of my favorite photos I've taken.
From what I've read, they actually did build a pad, but had a VERY short time to use it before they had to tear it out. Something like hours, or a day or so.
I researched the site before I went. It is a known area where an A12 went down in '67. When I got out there it's obvious. It looks like a field of titanium glitter and aircraft do-dads.
This is an article about the aircraft. Some careful web searching will describe more detail, but not the location. To find the site it took me many hours of research and careful planning. GPS coordinates are a closely guarded secret unlike other crash sites that have been plundered by eBay entrepreneurs.

That is something else. It looks like a swing axle rear end and a ball joint front end which would be '66, '67' or '68 while the dual port engine and crescent shaped vents behind the side windows is 1971 or newer.
Even though I've always been into the air cooled VWs I like this totally unidentifiable Beetle a little bit more than that one.
I took this picture while heading to a job in 2016. It was sitting in a side yard of a mobile home with a handful of other vehicles. Everything, including the mobile home was in similar condition.
In 2020 I saw it 5 or so miles away from that mobile home sitting in front of a barn near a friends house. I asked him if he knew the owner but he didn't. He did say he's seen off roading in the past.
I don't know if was still in front of the same barn a month ago. It was hard to tell and I took no pictures because there were 5 County Sheriff cars and at least 8 Sheriffs poking their noses all over the place.
I've seen quite a few Bugs on Jeep Chassis in the past and I have to agree with you I like the Monster Bug look!!! Hitler should have thought ahead!!!

Maybe I have some redneck in my family tree but I kinda like this one
Grits, chicken fried steak, sweat tea, chess pie, pimento cheese, country ham, and fried okra ring any bells? All awesome redneck eats/drinks that I miss and you'd have to eat to join entry into the redneck tribe.
I think this could be a bit unique in todays world. I went to Nations Giant Burgers this morning for breakfast ( it's a NorCal thing ) and on every table they had a small flower vase with a small American Flag. Thank God there is still some decency left in CA.
