PCV valve elbow removal?

If you want it out in one piece you got to remove the valve cover and push it out from the bottom.

Luckily i have replacements. I just wanted to keep the oil from leaking all over the valve cover. What a pain in the ass.

Speaking of pain in the ass. Ive put this on hold until after my colonoscopy/endoscopy tomorrow.

Probably not. Lol. I had someone say that in another thread. He also gave me the part numbers to order. If it doesnt stop the leaking. At least i will have replaced the old hard rubber and plastic. Its so brittle you can see where it chipped off easily while prying on it.

Mine was a PITA. After breaking off the flange I cut pieces of the grommet out with a razor and then was able to work the grommet enough that it seemed somewhat pliable and pulling slightly up and sideways the elbow came out.

yes no more oil leaking once grommet is replaced. Old grommets that are hard loose their ability to keep oil in. The new ones seal the elbow in nicely

I wonder if you could warm up (soften up) the grommet with a heat gun, or hair dryer?

I've used a heat gun on them routinely. Crank up the heat and let it cook! It's the best solution I've found. Even then, it's a PIA!

I did remove mine on my other TJ when I had the valve cover off. Sadly I just reinstalled them after cleaning everything. They were not easy by any means but with the valve cover off I was able to get them out and back in without any damage.

Makes perfect sense, just was wondering if that was what people had found.

Mine were leaking terribly. The forward PCV was a bitch to get out. Pulling up and at a slight angle towards were I cut the grommet it finally came out. The rear PCV came out no problem. The new gaskets do not leak whatsoever.

My endoscopy/colonoscopy went well. But no work on the Jeep today. Im wiped.

Maybe tomorrow ill do it.

I put the grommet in first then a little oil on the bottom of the PCV. Both at once seems a little aggressive

I had luck cutting up the grommet in an attempt to loosen the elbow. I took it apart in little pieces. It didn't take much and the elbow was loose enough to remove. I had planned on replacing the grommet anyways so it wasn't a big deal.

This is similar to what I did. I was able to pry the grommet off in pieces after hitting it with a heat gun.

Definitely not easy but I was able to replace both grommets without breaking either PCV. I mentioned doing this on another post because I discovered the rear grommet is a different size from the front on my 06 TJ. Had to get the rear from the dealer.

I broke mine off too and now I am looking for parts. can find the rear pcv but not the front one. Why can't I get a metal one that fits the same size hole and never break another one again? any model numbers?

This set worked well for my 2004. The orifice in the back elbow is the same size as the one that came off. And holy cow is it a pain to get the old ones off. You really got to get after it for those things to budge. I used heat, broke them apart, and then stepped over the top of them with my foot on the valve cover and pulled with all my might before they came off. Good luck to anyone who needs to do this job.

I used a big set of pliers to break off the elbow. Then i stuck a screwdriver in the leftover tube that goes into the valve cover. And pried it out.

Next one i might use a set of bolt cutters on the top elbow. Lol. They are a PITA!

ok thanks for the info. I am ready to order but also need/or see that my cold air intake hose is cracked where it connects to the throttle body. It is a hard plastic tube but then is soft rubber where it connects to the throttle body, this is where it is split. the part number is #53030611 and cost $128 but is out of stock. I don't really need to buy the whole hard plastic tube, is there not a small rubber boot that would fit over hard plastic tube and on to throttle body? that would be the best. any part numbers or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks I have a 1997 TJ 4L 6 cyl.

I would search for threads about cold air intakes. Stock set up would be better. And its cheaper.
