I did it for many years, but now for $20-$30 more I can have my shop do it so it's just not worth the trouble anymore.
Who changes their own oil here?

my old jeep the oil used to change itself. I just had to keep adding it hahahaha
Hands down one of the most gratifying and rewarding maintenance chores on the vehicle. As said before, while down there you can great all of the greaseable areas, inspect for leaks, check for loose hardware and even take a nap if need be.
Not just cheaper and faster than going to the lubing places, you know what quality you're putting into your rig. I get my 7yo to do it with me and I ask him what to do next, or what steps to take every time. This way it is in there, whether he likes it or not lol

Its the peace of mind that keeps me doing my own - the expense isn't a even blip on the radar for how often it gets done per year.
The Golf R is incredibly easy too - filter is accessible from right up on top.
The old subbie is more work, but still easy enough.
It's a 15 minute job for any of them from the time I open a beer and convince myself to go out and do it, to the time I am cleaned up.
Except for the time when you need another beer to wait for the oil to drain...

I agree! Both the Jeep and the Murano Cabrio go right into Jiffy Lube where I can sit and drink their free coffee while I wait.
I would not trust Jiffy Lube to even open the hood. If I could no longer change my oil I would at least pony up to my real mechanic.
Either that or they give it all they've got and strip the threads, then it just spins the next time they try to change their oil so they take it in an conveniently forget to mention their struggle.
It's amazing how bad most people are at torquing by feel, if they even know torque is a thing.
Plus torque values are less when threads are lubed

I was not aware of the concept of paying someone to apply wrenches to my own vehicles. I jest, but only very slightly. I have had a shop change my oil only a handful of times in my life, and only when I’m on a long distance camping trip thousands of miles from home and the vehicle is due. Otherwise, no way!

One of my favorite tools is a digital torque adapter I can place between anything from a 3/8” drive ratchet to a 3/4” drive breaker bar. You’d be surprised how little the smaller torque values feel and how much you have to get on it to meet a big one. For instance the pinion nut is 200 ft/lbs. I’m using a jack handle as a cheater bar and still jumping up and down on it to get there. Try getting an accurate reading on that by feel!

10w-40 Magnatec shits all over conventional oil and its recommended for TJ,s lol
