Hello, I am a new member for North Carolina. We bought our (spoiled) 16 year old son a sweet 2005 Jeep Rubicon with 65k miles. I typically join a forum for each vehicle type we own as they have proven to be the best source real knowledge about the vehicles.

Spoiled? You're not kidding!

I am kidding. What a great first vehicle for a 16 yo, though! Took me 52 years to get my first Rubicon.

How about you and I trade...I have a rubicon with a "few" more miles on it. He'll learn about mechanics and patience. Even better, these lessons will be free! :) Obviously kidding. I would have KILLED for a wrangler at 16. What a great vehicle for a kid. He must be a good dude, with great parents. :emoji_thumbsup:

Wish the TJ existed when we were 16. Best I could hope for would have been a used CJ or a YJ.

This forum will not disappoint you. Lots of great folks and info here. Welcome to the Jeep world! You've just taken a plunge from which you can never recover! A great father-son endeavor!

I'd love to see some photos. I'll tell you what, your son is one lucky kid, that's for sure. You guys must be the best parents ever.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. He is a good kid and we certainly try to be good parents. And yes, the Rubi is a great first car. It beats the heck out of the gold w/ turd brown trim 74 AMC Gremlin I was gifted at 16. With this said, I was glad to get a car of any make, style and/or color. My cousins and I had the ugly car market cornered, I had the Gremlin and they had a Pinto and a Vega. Our cars were character builders.

Below is a photo of my son washing the Rubi.

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Wow, nice first ride for him, and great looking Rubicon. Make sure he takes good care of that thing.

I can't even imagine what the insurance costs are! You're one hell of an awesome parent, I'll tell you that.

My dad is in Whittier, 45 mins south of Asheville. NC is beautiful, and the perfect place for a rubi. Enjoy it if you can steal it from your son every once in a while ha ha.
