PSC hydro assist install

I just looked up the derale d13200. I like the fin type looks like it might fit better too. My plan is to fish whatever cooler through the headlight bucket
The one I suggested fits through the grill slots and I think it'll fit. You have a baby cooler. Obviously consult with the Easter Bunny before you go cheap. I don't have issues but I don't deal with the heat you do. I'll see if I can find a picture of my setup so people can make fun of it.

Did you leave LA? It was 97 here in the IE today. One of the hottest summers I can remember.
 
No, I'm just north. Last few years it's been 110+ a few days in a row and my garden goes to shit. This year has been easy street, humid and thunderstorms. IE is different, that's for sure. Of course this year is when my cooling system decides to stop doing that whole cooling thing.
 
I added this trans cooler on the v bar of the radiator. Will it still mount ok?

This is the way we do it. But our parts are designed around a particular philosophy when it comes to how to set up a steering system. Our mount only works with the Derale 13250 extruded cooler though.

Metric is a term in this case, describing the attributes of something. One finger steering is 100% bullshit put out there by the aftermarket steering companies to sell steering. How easy it is to turn in the cab has nothing to do with how much power the system has to turn the tires.

If you contemplate a backhoe and the control levers, the operator has no sensory feedback into them to tell him how hard the bucket is working. Steering can be done the same way but sensory feedback is wonderful so the steering "feel" is determined by the torsion bar not the system power. A light torsion bar in the steering gear makes it very easy to turn or 1 finger steering. It also sucks to drive on the highway since the steering requires constant input and comes across as twitchy. The solution is to use a larger torsion bar for heavier steering "feel" that makes it far more comfortable to drive at speed and affects no downstream power since they really have no correlation.

FYI, with that pump, if you hold it in bypass very long, (that squeal you hear is bypass) you will bow the cap on the steering gear and puke the seal out. Second FYI- you can put it in bypass with tires straight ahead if they are in a spot where they can't turn.

PSC does not warranty a puked cap seal because they didn't fuck it up, you did.

Third FYI- every 5 seconds in bypass heats the fluid up about 50 degrees. That is due to the pump circulating the same fluid internally since there is no method to circulate it back to the reservoir in bypass. About the same as taking an auto tow rig and trying to get up a hill in first with a big load. You can watch the trans temp go berserk due to all the torque converter slippage being very mean to the fluid.

The custom return fitting is only used if you subscribe to the philosophy that you want as little restriction on the return as possible. That means -8 out of the gear, into the cooler, out of the cooler and back to the reservoir. Otherwise just use the Edelmann fitting and push on 3/8" hose.
Are you fittings drilled out and brazed or are they simply -8? I am not familiar with AN vs inch.

I get it. I was just kidding on the second post (at least no one has seen me play rock crawler). However it did turn using one finger, no kidding. I started it without getting in and turned it a little, it relented some I did it again all the way. When it stopped, so did I. No squeal or stall. If this pump is that sensitive, I’m going back to stock.

I never explained how I primed it and got the air out. Was easy, I turned the pump by hand and then loosened the HP fitting until the air stopped, then turned it some more by hand until the return line puked fluid, then I attached the return correctly. I did this just for visual confirmation that the fluid was circulating.

Hey, that description you gave of the pump heating up and destroying itself sounds like the warnings on my gas pressure washer. If your not washing, turn it off.

I assume we are talking about “max flow”, is the -8 larger than 3/8”? Why braze a AN fitting unless it has been modified. So, you see. I’m not even sure why I’m asking. They were recommended though.
 
Not the pump, the torsion bar in the steering gear is what sets the sensitivity and then it needs a matching pump to stay there.
Ok, I have a box from PSC, it is not the big bore but is already ported. Will this (psc) ram (with the cut off threads and shortened hiems) be a good match with this PSC pump? It seems PSC did not do enough homework, or the expect customers/installers to figure it out.

AN system is based on 1/16" increments per whole number increase in size. -1 is 1/16, -2 is 1/8, which makes -8 1/2". -6 is 3/8". You can't easily adapt -8 out of the return port on the steering gear with adapters. If you get a -8 male on top of the metric o-ring fitting then you use a -8 push lock 90 or similar and the overall height runs into the bottom of the grill. I adapt a -8 male onto a standard Edelmann return push on fitting to get a lower profile way out of the return port and get to -8.

How many applications should PSC design systems for based on which tire size and what front axle with which motor?

You're not listening. I have a choice of 3 different pumps, 1 steering gear with 5 different torsion bars, many different cylinders and all of that changes depending on whether or not I'm running hydroboost and what size bore the cylinder has that I'm using.

If I pick a steering gear with a specific torsion bar, I have to match a pump to it or I negate the effect of the torsion bar that I'm trying to get. If I get those matched up and run that with hydroboost, then I have to change the pump. Neither of those two choices hold firm if I don't account for the cylinder size.

Nothing is less true than one size fits all steering bits. None of the parts I use even have part numbers on the website that can be found yet it is all PSC. You want them to design a plug and play system and they can't even convince most of their customers to run a non optional cooler.
 
I don’t really want them to design a plug and play system. I did not request that they list a hydro assist on there site that is TJ specific. That said, they do have (2) listed. I bought one. When I talked to a “expert” there, he never mentioned a cooler. However using my own deduction and ir heat gun, I decided to ask here.

Now that I realize you are actually speaking of a custom system for my TJ, I will reread until I understand what you are saying. I’m not saying you are not clear, it is my lack of expertise on the current subject.
