I’m still debating the Atlas vs Rubicon 241 conversion from my 231 and looking for some input.

I have a 2001 with the 4.0 and the 32RH running the UCF ultra high clearance skid. I’m curious if anyone has swapped the Rubicon 241 into a rig with this configuration. More curious of clearance to the skid as the 241 is larger. I have a 1.25 BL and it looks like I should have clearance above.

That all said I am also running the 231 cable shifter so I’m curious if that will convert to the 241. The other write ups dial in the electrical for the most part but I’m slightly confused on the speedo. The 231 is gear driven and the 241 is electronic. So all one needs to do is adapt the current gear driven wiring to the electronic via a plug/wire pin change? Lastly, does one need to swap the SYE from thr 231 to the 241 or is the 241 already SYE from the factory?

Any support is appreciated!

Can't speak to the fitment with the ultra high clearance skid from UCF, but the speed sensor is simple. The 241 sensor plugs right into the same plug that the 231 gear driven speedo sensor uses. It will plug right in like factory. What will not work like factory will be the calibration of that sensor. That sensor is basically programmed for 4.10 & 31's since it was for a rubicon and non-adjustable. It willl also work decently well for 4.56/33 or 4.88/35. Pretty much anything else you'll have to live with the inaccuracy, or calibrate it. So depending on your tire size and gear ratio, you might want a calibrator. Something along the lines of a Speedohealer (the kits are discontinued but you can cobble together your own), or a Truspeed, yellow box. dakota digital, etc.

Good to know. Thank you.

Assuming you have the savvy cable shifter you can buy the end for the 241. At least that's what Michael told me when I asked him a while back.

For me, the debate for an np241 vs atlas ended purely due to cost. Most people wanted 1,500 t0 1,800 for a 241 that had 100k+ after doing a rebuild on the Tcase it was basically a break-even with the Atlas. With Black Friday coming up soon I'd bet you could get a good discount on an atlas if you choose to go that direction. The atlas is also a bit shorter than the NP241 so you'll gain a bit of rear DS, in turn, you'll lose a few inches off the front.

As far as an Atlas, I have one on order and it's not expected until March so if you don't need it anytime soon it's an option
I’m not in a huge rush, I need to swap out engine and transmission for some freshies I have sitting in the shop and figured I’d do the transfer case at the same time and have everything nearly new as the axles were just redone 3,000 miles ago.

You'll likely have to do something with your driveshafts, definitely the rear either way you go.

Another thing on the Atlas, call in your order and they won't charge you until shortly before they are ready to build it.
