Dana 35 pinion crush sleeve different?

I ordered a new 373 pinion and ring for the rear axle of my 2003 TJ, it is NOT the same as what I am replacing and I think there is a thinner crush sleeve than the one I have in the master kit I got from rock auto. The kit is SVL Ring and Pinion pin 20200481 , Dana 35-373. I hope I can find a thin...

Dana 35 teardown & replacement of bearings

Hi, finished the front and working on the rear…it’s clear that someone with no professional skill or knowledge rebuilt it. The carrier bearing caps were backwards. It has koyo bearings and races and the carrier shims were all on one side…..they consisted of 2 LARGE thick shims that are beveled...

Metallic deposit in front diff oil

Mine had bad pitting and clearly ate themselves up, someone must have gotten into water and never changed the fluid. When the fluid did get changed it was too late, they just slapped it together and sold it to me.

    Good write-up on DIY re-gearing?

Hi there, so today I got the back lash pretty close at 7-8 thousandths , I added the pinion shim .010 before someone said to hold up so I just went with it. The initial back lash with no changes to the carrier shims was 4 thousandths and the engagement pattern really showed that, it will be the...

Hi, all I can say is what a learning experience….I am at 9 thousandths for backlash and the gear pattern is ok I think. But what do I know! I don’t know how much it is going to change when I try it with a crush sleeve and the proper torque. But this is as close as I can get it without doing...
