Brakes are smoking and feel stuck

I bought calipers from Rock Auto. Had a rounded lug nut that cost me hours. Once off, I went to work...took off the old calipers, disconnected the brake hose. Tried to install the new caliper and pads. For the life of me, I can't get the holes to line up with the caliper bolts. I am also...

Thanks — I looked at Rock Auto (it is a 4.0). Was lazy about shipping back for core refund :)

Brakes are smoking and feel stuck

So never got around to changing caliper and problem did not return. Today brake on the opposite side did the same and after cooling was fine. I will change the calipers and brake hoses were changed about a year ago, but possible they are clogging. The Jeep is a weekend ride so don't need high...

    Lifted or Stock?

The Jeep is not a daily driver, but rather a weekend ride and not for off roading . I've had it two years and it has been pretty reliable for 181K miles. I am not looking to dump a lot of money into it, but safety does matter. Strong engine, smooth shifting, solid frame and limited body rust...

    Lifted or Stock?

The Jeep spent its life in the northeast, thus the rust. There are things I am hesitant to do given the rust. Changing the calipers makes me nervous as not sure where I may get stuck on bolts. I bought a MAP has torch as my propane isnt hot enough when it comes to heating bolts. Would love to...

    Lifted or Stock?

Looking to replace the front brake hoses and always assumed the Jeep was lifted 2" (bought it used). I found a table that listed the coil spring length as a guide to lift height. Per the table my 12" coil is stock height. I've included a photo of the coil and the Jeep. Is it stock? Tire size...

    TJ Suddenly Stalling

Jeep was fine for a few days...then it wasn't...then it was. Not sure if the ECU has to re-calibrate, but assumed it did when I didn't experience any bucking for two weeks. It returned for a week then was gone again...grrrr.

Brakes are smoking and feel stuck

Thanks everyone. Have not seized since that day, but l'll assume it was a caliper. Curious if the location of the smoke in the video link I posted is consistent with a caliper. Also, I searched, but could not find a good detailed description of the steering knuckle divot... what causes it and...

Did it free up when cool? I have been driving without issue all weekend.

Thanks, I always assumed a seized caliper was forever seized.

Brakes are smoking and feel stuck

Reviving an old thread. Rotors, pads and front brake lines changed about a year ago. Yesterday, my 1999 TJ was pulling hard to the right and seemed as if I was driving with the brakes on. Got home and there was smoke coming from behind the right front wheel. I suspected a seized caliper. Took...

    TJ Suddenly Stalling

I eventually got a code for the downstream O2 sensor. I was able to get it replaced. I spent 6 hours under the Jeep with a torch and couldn't get it to budge. Took it to a shop and they got it off with minimal effort (want to believe I loosened it for them). Was running the same (crappy) on ride...

The Official Jeep Wrangler TJ Oxygen (O2) Sensor Thread

Thanks. I picked-up a MAP torch today and hit the bung until red spraying with WD40 Penetrating oil — repeated a few times — wouldn't budge. I think if I had room to get some leverage I might get it, but I don't have a lift to take off the muffler or skid plate. I have a local shop that I...

The Official Jeep Wrangler TJ Oxygen (O2) Sensor Thread

1999 TJ, been trying to get the downstream sensor out. I used a ton of PB Blaster and hit it with a propane torch with no luck using an open end wrench. I finally cut the wire and the top of the sensor (used a reciprocating saw) so I could get a socket on the flats. Was able to get a breaker bar...
