What did you do to your TJ today?

took it into the English countryside and got it a little muddy.

It may indeed be coplanitary. Sand down surfaces, clean with alcohol and when reinstalling put Permatex on both surfaces and only tighten moderately. Wait about 30 min to torque to specs and maybe wait a few hours before adding fluid

I'm wondering if the area in the red circle is my problem - it is definitely proud of the rest of the mating area on the head. There's a relief in the gasket (and the t-stat housing) for it but maybe it extends beyond that. I also just noticed the bit of old gasket in the green circle - which I may or may not have seen and gotten rid of after this pix was taken. It certainly is easier to see things in a photograph, then with the naked eye sometimes.

Thank Goddess this is a super easy job to re-do as many times as I need to to get it right. So simple, even a Belly Dancer can do it! ;)

AAAAND, its still leaking. Just a tiny drop. Tightened the two bolts to 25 NM (spec is 20). When that doesn't do the trick, I guess its Permatex time as I sure don't see anything wrong with the mating surfaces - it may be a co-planarity problem.
I seem to recall that there was a previous thread about the thermostat housing being at fault. I think that it may have been some aftermarket housing.

I see it. Maybe a bit of laquer thinner. With a side order of wire wheel with a rag stuffed in the orifice

Parked it yesterday afternoon in the place I kept my PT Cruiser. I wanted to drive the PT because the wind and rain were a nightmare. Found out on my way home that the passenger headlight on the PT wasn't working. Rats chewed the wire. Went to feed the chickens and the dogs were all over trying to get into the Jeeps underneath. So I opened the hood and low and behold, this huge rat scurries over the air box and disappears somewhere in the engine. What to do next? Start the Jeep of course, LOL. My big dog caught the rat as it was trying to escape the engine bay.

Then I saw this, this is only basically 12 hours that the Jeep was under the carport.

I had drier sheets in the PT and Miata, but I guess I should have replaced them from time to time. This is the damage to the PT because the dog was always trying to get to the rats.

This is my fix for tonight with the Miata, but I have ordered some "Pet safe" rat traps and also a couple little devices to put in the engine bay that have strobe lights and make a noise that supposedly rats don't like.

I got to do something before they do worse damage then what they already have. The Miata has had to have it's insulation around the hood replaced, the windshield wiper motor wire repaired and the AC wire repaired. I'm done with these rats.

Needless to say, the Jeep is back in it's normal spot so I can drive it again and the PT is going into the garage so my hubby can pull half the car apart to get to the headlight wiring. LOL Not as simple as the Jeep or a VW bus to remove the headlights. Have to pull the grille and bumper off.

Freeze it and send it to me. My little girl "Sweetpea" Eats 7-10 of those weekly. :) Fun to watch an animal that swallows it's prey without chewing, get those long tails down to the stomach.:(
p.s. My lizard and rats are much larger than these (Vid).

Look on Amazon for it and some rat of the big rat bait stations. You’ll need at least two station and 4lbs of bait. You’ll. Also need to identify the kind of rat you have

Loaded her on a tow truck for a trip back to the service center. Had her in yesterday to have the transmission cooler lines replaced. The metal lines were corroded and leaking. Well, they screwed it up royally. If I hadn't checked their work, they'd be buying me a new tranny.
