Replacing my rear main seal and noticed this on the bearing . Is it okay to put it back in with this damage?

What are you saying is damaged, specifically? I've done the rms a few times, but I don't guess I have enough experience to pick out what's wrong.

NOTE: the preceding does not mean nothing is wrong. Let's be clear about that. :)

In the picture you can see the rear main bearing cap, the metal at the bottom curve is chipped/dented in. I am unsure on whether this chip/dent will cause a leak when I put it all back together. It was like this when I removed it but it may also be the reason there was a leak in the first place

If you mean the outer bottom edge as oriented in your photo, nothing is riding on that surface so I don’t think it’s a problem.

Doesn't that part sit outside the oil pan gasket?

It sits right behind the metal on the transmission bell housing. My RMS leak was coming from inside that piece of metal directly across from the oil pan drain plug and would seep out heavily whenever I pushed on the metal. This makes me think that the chipped part was what was causing the leaking? On my last TJ the leak was dripping from the surface but in this one it seems like it was coming from the inside where the flywheel is if that makes sense.

That dent won’t effect anything. What concerns me is that the previous repairman used rtv to seal the main cap to the block. Rtv is not the correct sealant for that.

Meaning the area you are concerned about lives outside the sealed part of the engine, correct?

The correct sealant is anaerobic sealant right? That is what I used on my previous TJ I believe.

Yes. I guess that means that can’t be the source of my leak. It just made sense to me that a chip there would cause my leak.

In this video you can see how the leak was coming from the inside.

Remove the half of the old seal and post a picture of the area of where the seal sits, then we can tell you if the damage is an issue or not.

Noticed this ding above the hole for the bolt as well. PO had rtv all over the hole too. Would this cause a leak?
