Replacing carpet with spray on liner

Main reason, I’m in Florida and we ride mainly in a top only set up. I’ve owned the Jeep for 11 days and been caught in the rain twice already. The carpet is getting a lovely smell to it. I’m thinking not having it would eliminate the smell and roll on without worry of rain.

Are you asking why spray vs going bare metal?

Just figured I’d ask your reasoning. I wouldn’t do it. I’d go bedrug before bedliner.

I'd love to do a spray in liner on mine - carpet has no place in a Jeep or truck. BUT - I've been talked out of it by folks here who are more knowledgeable - mainly due to heat transfer. I planning on "BedTred" (NOT "BedRug") eventually, its still pretty far down on the list. I too am in Florida and don't want heat transfer.

I’m thinking of ripping the old carpet out of the Jeep and spraying it with Raptor bed liner. Online, all I can find are reasons TO DO it.

Anyone have experience with this project and have a negative experience? Any downsides I may be overlooking (heat transfer, noise, etc)?

I would not do it because of heat transfer and noise transfer.

BedRug or BedTred

In your situation I’d do BedRug with WeatherTech fitted floor liners, including the cargo liner.

If you don’t want to buy all that I’d do just the BedTred.

I've done this, both.
I have a spray in Raptor liner in my Jeep, no more heat transfer than the vents blowing hot air year round and a little noisier but no stinky carpet.
My truck has the BedRug liner in the bed, super nice but the same issue will be there with it getting wet.

Don't do it. I did mine, came out really nice, looks nice, but it's no better than painted floor. Be better off to just take out the carpet and leave the painted floor if you are deadset on getting rid of the carpet.

I used herculiner (sprayed on) and it is almost impossible to get off if you ever need to. Wish I hadn't done it. Spent about an hour using an industrial blast cabinet just to remove the liner from the inside of my tailgate. Each sq inch was painstaking, and it left a very eroded and non-smooth surface after I was done. (Probably should have wire wheeled it).

Plus it traps mud and dirt, very difficult to clean.

It is a crud catcher for sure.
Mine was filthy when I bought it and had to scrub it out with a brush and soapy water.
Now I have the Weathertech liners to keep the floor clean, mine never leaves the pavement either so there's that too.

Come to think of it, I texture coated (orange peel) my garage to match the interior of the house and that was a big mistake too. Crud catcher!

Previous owner of our TJ had it done. Not exactly sure what product but we love it. Looks great, easy to clean, haven't noticed any noise or heat issues but we've also been running door and top less all summer in Texas. Only thing to be careful of is it is slick when wet

Much prefer it to carpet

The PO sprayed bedliner in my Jeep. Looks OK except it's impossible to clean. I wish I didn't have it, I'd get a bedrug instead.

Plus some fasteners are covered up. Not an issue yet, but I could see plenty of instances in the future where it very well may be.

Do it!! Spray on bed liner is the best keeps the tub in good shape too nowhere for the water to get trapped.

Do it!! cleaning is not such a big deal since I power wash it. Or spray paint over the dirt. bed liner is bumpy so what's some more sand in the bumps. But if you want it looking glossy clean it could be tricky. Another downside kinda is painting over bolts and nuts but that could be a positive also.
