02' TJ - Capable daily driver

Yes, a L shaped bracket drilled for the 4 holes on the A/C bracket and then drill 4 holes on the vertical side to match the York and bolt it down. Then just have to figure out a tensioner bracket for a pulley to keep the belt tight.
I built a hinged one on my old CJ where the York itself moved to get the tension. I don't have any pictures of it unfortunately. Then the alternator pulley is all you have to buy. Well and then all the parts for the air system.

Sounds like a plan..
But this would only work on the 97' without AC right? I wouldn't be able to take that AC bracket and put it on my 02' with AC, since the alternator is in a different place

Correct. To do your 02 you'd have to buy the bracket from ORO or CU Off-Road. And on your 02 isn't it driven using a longer serpentine belt?

I had a Kilby bracket on my 4 cyl before I did the engine swap but I also had A/C on it. Then when I did the V-8 swap I'd remembered that Brad had recently done a V-8 swap on his TJ so I contacted him and lucked out because he had a bracket kit for the Dodge magnum. This was a never released kit and he'd only built them for his engine but had made a small run of them.

I don't think making the bracket for the 97 would be that hard. The hardest part would be making a tensioner. But I think with some looking and thinking it could be done. Let me see if I have any pictures of my 4 cyl setup.

Yeah that's unfortunate that there's only a few sellers for the brackets
I'm not letting the 97' get OBA before mine lol
But once i eventually get the mount and get the York setup on my 02' i'll look more into building the bracket for the 97'. Thanks for the idea, never thought it would've been that simple to build the bracket

OK.
Use to only be Kilby who sold the brackets at one point. But at the time his prices were reasonable. If you keep watching you can find someone selling a bracket kit. About 2 years ago someone on here sold one.
If you get the bracket and want a used York let me know. I'd bought 2 at the Moonshiner's swap meet because I was going to put one on my sons Scout and the other was a spare for mine. I gave one to @Alex01 so still have one left. If you want it you're welcome to it.

Thanks for the offer. I'll definitely take you up on that once i get a bracket. Or maybe once your rig is up and running i'll head over your ways for some test runs

You can also see if you can get some examples of the bracket for your 02 that keeps the A/C and see if it's something that you could fabricate yourself?

Here is how the York mounted on my 4 cyl. It was next to the A/C compressor. It's been too long now for me to remember anything about it.

This used a V-belt instead of a longer serpentine belt.

It was kind of a T bracket with the top of the T bolted to the York and then the vertical part went under the A/C. Don't know if that helps any as I haven't looked at how your setup looks.

Oh interesting.. So is that with the Kilby bracket?
I'll have to go outside tomorrow and compare these to my setup

Yes, this was one of the first mods I did to my TJ after I'd bought it in 2002. Kilby sold his business a while ago and is now CU Off-Road.

I've had a York on all my different rigs for a long time, here is my old CJ 5 that had a Buick 231 V-6 in it that I built a bracket for the York.

Got it, so now its just ORO and CU it seems like?

This might've been the post you were talking about from 2 years ago..

Makes the bracket for non-AC look pretty easy to fabricate

Yep, that was it. And yes that is more or less what I was suggesting for your 97. IMO it'd be pretty simple. What gets spendy is if you decide to get the serpentine pulley. If you want to go that route you need to search for a York off a big rig (Kenworth/Freightline/Peterbuilt) as they use them for their air brakes and stuff. And they come with the pulley.
The one I have has the V-belt pulley on it.

Got my LED tail lights in from @Claytone. Super bright and easy install, definitely recommend

Also found a cheap hardtop, which was in better condition than my black one. Some penetrol and she looks good!

Can't decide if i prefer the black top or the tan top. Currently have the black one on my dads TJ.

Also picked up a Warn X8000i, been looking for a Warn for a while and came across a pretty good deal.

Liking how it's sitting right now

Got a good bit of snow/rain down at my dads place, decided to test out the mud terrains

Had to get a tow out of that one

Drove it 2 hours home right after this, no problems!

Picked up a Savvy engine skid on craigslist. Having issues with mating it to a stock skid plate. I believe on 03-06 skids it bolts right up after drilling some holes. On 97-02 skids it will not sit flush at all. Seems like it will take some major grinding to even out the stock skid so the engine skid will sit flush.
Debating whether it’s worth doing all that work to the stock skid or if i should just get a raised aluminum skid and then put the savvy engine skid to that. Anyone bolted this skid up to a 97-02 before? Was it worth the effort?

That’s the gap it has. Seems like i would need to grind the front edge as well as the ridges on the middle.

My '04 had the front lip of the stock TC skid already ground off. Not a great pic for the detail needed but ...

Half-Door Restoration Part 1:

A bit over a year ago i picked up these half doors for 400$. They were in fantastic condition and came with soft uppers as well. This was october of 2021, and i held onto them until spring which is when i had plans to paint them. However spring rolled around and I couldn’t bring myself to scuff up the nice paint, so I sold them off to someone who would appreciate their condition (with insane half door prices i doubled my money)

However still on the hunt for half doors, i picked up this set for 100$

From what i can tell they were repainted 3 times. Originally red, then blue, and then coated with green.

Half-door Restoration Part 2:

After tearing the doors apart, i decided to strip them completely to bare metal. Had they been in good condition like the original doors i would have scuffed the paint instead of going to bare metal, but these doors needed to be completely stripped

Starting with paint stripper, which removed the first and second layers
1B134E20-58B1-4C38-8849-A36291A160ED.jpeg

And then using a wire wheel/angle grinder to remove the rest of the paint

At this point they were almost ready for a final primer, but i spent lots of time fixing imperfections

Half-Door Restoration Part 3:

After spending a while on the body work, i was ready for the final primer

Wet sanded the primer, wiped it down, and then gave it the base coat and clear coat
DD80D1A1-4BC6-4C81-93AF-D8D7F1CC53D8.jpeg

For paint i used duplicolor color match, and for clear i used Spraymax 2k gloss clear. Both spray great, no regrets with those choices.

I was able to test fit them up for the drive home, and so far the color was only slightly glossier, not surprising for 20 year old paint

Half-Door Restoration Part 4:

The hard part was done, and all i had left was to paint the panels and assemble

For the interior panels i used Colorbond agate, which matches pretty well

Scuffed the panels with scotchbrite, gave them some plastic adhesion promotor, and then the paint. Everything went on super easily, paint sprayed light and dried quick

Half-Door Restoration Part 5:

Majority of the work was done, just worked on the finishing touches

Followed @MountaineerTom guide for re-keying half doors, seems intimidating at first but is actually a simple task.

Soaking the parts in cleaner before reassembly
B4413BD7-72FA-43F4-AF8C-38AE89F947F3.jpeg

I don’t plan on locking my doors, but it’s nice to have the option. Also added a new key cap as the old one was worn down and it was cheap to replace

Door straps were worn and uneven, so i painted the metal posts and had my mom sew up some new ones

Also got all new door locks and handles, which made a huge improvement for the restoration

Lastly, all new screws. I just went to my local ace and picked up some black painted philips. They blend in well.
