Crack in Console Lid / Arm Rest

I searched for other threads didn’t see one, but does anyone have advice on sealing or bondo-ing the big cracks in my console lid? I used regular bondo and it eventually just came off. Peeled off in big flakes. I used the correct amount of hardener. It was cleaned and sanded. I did get it wet (and it soon came off), but that can’t be the answer, otherwise bondo would just flake off every car whenever it rains. I’m guessing I didn’t sand it well enough and will try again, but just wanted to make sure there wasn’t a glaring issue like bondo not adhering to what ever material the console armrest is made of. Would really appreciate any guidance!
