I have been having issues with the dash gauges going in and out, I’ve done some research and I think it has to do with this in my IOD fuse slot. Is it safe to pull this and put a 10A fuse in its place? I’m afraid if I pull it, the fuse slot won’t accept the new fuse. I have attached a photo.

Pull that out right now regardless of your issue. That is a fire just waiting to happen.

I wont accuse you of doing this wire bodge, but if a fuse keeps blowing, and it's sized appropriately, a bigger fuse is not the answer!

You will need the FSM (Factory Service Manual) found HERE to view the electrical schematics and a multimeter to begin tracing for shorts and / or loose connections.

Why is that jumper wire in there? Is it from a previous owner?

My guess would be that the fuse kept blowing and this was the cure?
Install the correct fuse. Then it may be time for some troubleshooting.

Okay story time we used to own an auto parts store. Two guys came in and said what is your thickest wire you sell? So I showed them.

We just need a little short piece, I said I can cut it whatever length you want but I'm going to sell you a foot. Then I asked what they were going to use the wire for.

They said they had a short in the wiring on the boat. They were going to go to the middle of the lake put the wire where the fuse was. Then when the wire melts we will know what wire is shorting.

I said do you know how to swim? Then I told them chances are the wire is with a bunch of other wires so they will all melt.

Then I explained how to find the short without burning up there boat.

I don't miss dealing with the general public.

Did those guys ever make it into politics? They sound like the type.

It was like this when I got it. I changed it out today with the right fuse and everything is working fine. Thank you for the link for the FSM!

It was from a previous owner, I am not sure why it was there. I installed the proper fuse and everything is working just fine.

Might have been a trail fix. Wouldn't be the first or last time a temporary repair ended up forgotten and permanent.

I've seen way to much heinous fuse box butchery...I tend to, shortly (excuse the pun) after acquiring a vehicle verify the correct fuses are in all the right spots...and that often sounds easier than it is with all the fuses and options vehicles have these days.
