99 TJ Sahara, original owner. 219,000 miles and runs like a champ. Have ran M1 10w-30 and more recently M1 high mileage 10w-30 its entire life. Burns no oil but puts a few drops on floor after use. Can see caked dirt on oil pan from clinging to seepage.

Per research on site I see Jerry and lots of guys recommend just running a conventional 10w-30 high mileage to help with “drooling” !! Picking up Napa conventional in said configuration tomorrow. Enough for next 2 oil changes. Hopefully makes a difference.

I always did 5K changes with M1 ….. is the conventional good for that or would you guys shorten up to 3-3.5K on the OCI??

Can t see any other issues but if I ve missed something please let me know. Napa Gold filters or Wix have always been used; want to continue to take good care of the old girl as I think 300+K should be easy the way it runs. MPG might take a slight hit but, hey, it’s a Jeep! (Brick)

Thx for any thoughts/input.

Jerry, good point. Lots of dust, slow crawling, idling would be more severe than average commute/highway use.

Did you get the red container at NAPA? Does it say "Conventional" on the label? The red containers that I bought did not specify conventional, synthetic or blend. I caught some grief on another thread for assuming it's conventional. I still think it is.

I didn't know you could even still get conventional. I've been using the high mileage stuff (which is all blended now) since basically forever because I haven't owned a vehicle with less than 80k miles on it since 2009.

Worth a try with conventional oil , But I believe the Jeep just can't stand living in a building with a floor that clean !

Beware of sellers (Amazon, OhReally ;) , etc) which advertise "Conventional". Check with the manufacturer. You'll find that most manufacturers have completely stopped making pure conventional oil, but the sellers still advertise it that way. Pennzoil shows NO conventional oils on their website. Some oils which used to be conventional are now blends, and finding out if it's a 50-50 blend or a 5-95 blend is tough. At this point, I'm not sure about any of the conventional oils we depended on a couple of years ago.

Ever the skeptic, I would want to see conventional or non synthetic on the bottle to really know. But fair enough. I figure eventually the manufacturer and API specs are gonna kill the economics of conventional oil and we'll be doomed to paying $10/qt for lab grown oil with properties custom tailored to make it impossible to use the "natural" stuff.

As much as I despise wally world, it's where I buy my oil. I find they have the cheapest prices compared to other local stores.
Unfortunately, their selection has dwindled to semi and full synthetics.

That's probably where I got the idea that conventional was gone, being that they always have a place on their shelves for the cheapest option available.

FWIW mine had Rotella 15/40 conventional diesel oil in in when I bought it and it was dry as a bone underneath. I switched to Valvoline 5W/30 synthetic and the rear main started leaking. Then I went to Valvoline high mileage 10W/40 synthetic blend, rear main drool reduced to a drip. I did some research and found what I am going with next, a very highly rated 100% conventional oil Quaker State All Mileage Conventional API SP available in 10W/30 and 10W/40. Notice it says "All Mileage" not "High Mileage". Even Google will bring up high mileage oils when you search for all mileage oil.
The QS is available at Wally World, AutoZone and O'reilly. Available in quart and 5 quart containers.

From the Quaker State website.......I added the bold.

Quaker State® All Mileage motor oil is a synthetic blend motor oil that provides protection for new and old vehicles. It is formulated to provide durable wear protection that helps engines survive daily commutes under all driving conditions. Not only is Quaker State® All Mileage designed to protect new engines, but it also has anti-wear additives that help protect against wear that high mileage engines experience to help stop leaks and reduce oil consumption in worn engines.

Bastards!!! I looked at the date on the pdf that states "conventional" and it is from 9/16/2020. I wonder if they changed the formula? Time to shoot them an email
