Dash-top tweeter / speaker

I am little cash poor- to many projects not enough funds. So changing out speakers has been decent enough for me(rear and sub woofer)...so far. I am just wondering how the components would compare to the stock dash speakers. Just looking to get those directional frequencies up top instead of letting me knee enjoy them.. Might add an amp and/or head unit later. My chevelle needs a new bass amp first. 😉

If you put the mid of component set under the dash by your knees, don't expect any mid-bass. They are free-air when they are mounted in that location. I moved my 6.5" mids to the roll bar, with the inside of the pods dynamat-ed and polyfilled, and the mid-bass is still severely lacking, and almost non-existant.

I'm running the component set off of a 400x4 amp, bridged down to 200x2.

Understandable

Components, as long as they are powered correctly, will deliver a better sound stage if the tweeters are up on the dash facing the listener

Something any buyer can do is install the woofers in the dash with the crossovers temp hangin, and the tweeters aimed at your knees. Do a good listen. This is basically what Coaxials will sound like

Next put the tweeters up on the dash facing the listener. The difference is instantaneously obvious. This is why modern era vehicles with upper tier factory sound systems have tweeters up by the listener

related note I am not sure all TJ years have same component speaker arrangement as my 05' . I have only seen coaxial posted so just sharing a photo. I already tried changing the mounting orientation to better tilt these up- which was not successful change to front staging.

What did you use to make holes? A hole saw, a dremmel, utility knife.

Jumping on an older thread to provide me feedback on the Kickers coax speakers vs components. I recently installed the 5.25 Kicker Coax all around powered by a 4 channel x 75 rms Amp. Sound was not great. Just ordered (from Crutchfield) the Polk component 5.25 with plans to top dash mount the tweeters and the matching Polk 5.25 coaxials for the roll bar. I’ll chatter back on Saturday 1/6/24 when everything is installed and dialed in. I also have the Kicker 6.75 Sub in a custom under seat box powered by a 250 watt amp.

Should go 6.5” in the roll bar

What amp are you using?? Im assuming you ran all new bigger gauge speaker wire also??

Too late on the 6.5’s as I already have the 5.25’s coming. I did run 14 gauge directly from the amp outputs to the speakers as I’ve had issues with sound interference running back through the factory harness in the past. The Amp for my speakers is the Soundstream RMS 1200 which runs 75w RMS x 4 @ 4 ohms.
