The goal is android auto.

I chuckle when people spend tons of money trying to make a vehicle, especially an offroad vehicle sound like the Grosser Musikvereinssaal. To each his own.

I am looking for a top tray that the phone will lay flat in for wireless charging and still waiting for a set of foam baffles for the 4x6's to come in..

I’ll be watching this thread. I’m hoping to install a double din at some point and I’m curious to see how it works for you.

doing the double din install is really easy. just be careful when cutting the sub panel (plastic support) on the left side. put a piece of metal or a metal scraper between the plastic and the wire bundle so you don't cut the wire, none of the videos say that and 1 idiot cut his wires. just put something between there, trust me better safe than sorry with those wires, I'm a retired aircraft mech. and could cut 1 sheet of 2 pieces bonded together and still placed something between there. I used a 90 grinder and cut off wheel, but a Dremel would work. other than that it's easy....

This is my wireless charging setup.
Add a fuse in the glovebox + apple mag charger. Keeps the dash clear and the upper tray useable.

HU is the Joying Android which does wireless apple and android CarPlay.

I love touch screen displays on tablets and cell phones but I'd never install a radio in a Jeep with a touch screen. I want buttons and knobs I can feel and push/turn so I don't have to look at the touch screen and find then touch a small icon for what I want while driving. Touch screens are fine when stopped but I'd sure hate having to use one while driving.

Touch screens have their place, but not in my car. Not on my phone or computer either for that matter!

This is my wifes Barbie Jeep, so a little foo-foo is allowed.

I bought the SSL because it had positive reviews, has android auto and was low cost. I also like radios with buttons and knobs, but they are getting harder to find.

I bought a windshield mount phone holder/charger. Good reviews on Amazon and on here.

Jack72, I am breaking no new ground here. Everything I am doing, someone here has already done.

I wanted the ability to use maps, and especially Gaia while offroading. CarPlay was also the motivator, as I use apple music for listening... hate sirius... Also I needed to add bluetooth, or a way to call hands-free...

Don't need to touch while driving, do all that before I need to move. Gaia does nice breadcrumbing (recording) trails while offroading to save for later.

Merry Christmas to me. :) Already installed and screen has tons of fingerprints already. Loving the double din but, I think my favorite update is the Bullet Point phone mount. I had been using one of those suction cups to the windshield previously. It is very solid. Also, added a backup camera.

New speakers are installed. I am waiting on the phone mount and need to pick up a 12v receptacle to mount behind the glove box.

I am still undecided on a backup camera. I have a couple that are leftover from other projects and the video cord, I am not sure where I should mount it. I have a spare tire cover and do not really want to drill a hole in the bumper or in the top.

Day 1. I got a late start and ran into a couple speedbumps. My multitool blade was 7 years old, it would have taken me a week to cut my arm off.

I had to figure out the wiring mess from a PO. I didn't want to cut anything I needed to keep. I'm not real happy with the amount of dash I had to cut out for the double din. I may fab a panel to strengthen it back up.

I tossed the cig lighter and put this dual USB plug in. My radio has two USB cables, one for charging and one for Android.

Day 2: Working on the wiring harness and phone mount/charger.

Any idea if these wires belong here?

I can't see where they go, the red wire was powering the old radio and is constant power. If you left the radio on, it would run the battery down.

I don't think the blue wire was connected to anything.

I pulled a few fuses, most are old and corroded, some are the incorrect amperage, so I am replacing them all.

Back to the red and blue wires, if they don't belong, I am taping and tucking them.

Just trace them back and see where they start.

They mounted mine above my license plate. It looks very inconspicuous there.
