New Truck Discussion

I didn't read the thread & don't have much to add on trucks in general, having never been a truck guy except, & I'm not sure it even qualifies as an exception, I had a 1991 Nissan 'Hardbody' :ROFLMAO: years ago, awesome little hauler of all sorts of home improvement related crap.

She looked a lot like this, about in the same condition too, fuck if I didn't know any better I'd say that was it

word on the street (the YouTube street anyway) is that big trucks are starting to drop in price, they over built them, over priced them, and now people are over fed-up with it all & they've got to get rid of these behemoths, so it might be good to wait a bit & see how that all plays out.

Nice having an older truck that you can use for its intented purpose upon request. I like those 6.0's. I know a mechanic that has one with 500,000 plus kilometers orig trans/motor. Same year I think

Exactly, having a truck around for when a truck is needed for truck duty is different than having one for both truck duty and a daily driver. You either have 1 with payments or 2 with no payments but spend the difference on insurance and upkeep instead.

I too had a Nissan of that model. Cant remember what year it was but I bought it used in 1988. It was so stripped down it did not have a radio, air conditioning, a clock, cigarette lighter (needed for my cross country drive for my radar detector), or a passenger side mirror. Got me through 2 years in California and 4 years of college and I only changed oil and serviced brakes once.

Oh now you want to be picky.

Considering my colorado is about the same size and capability of a mid 90's 1500, yeah, I think they should have widenend the box interior a bit to allow the plywood to fit. I had a 92 S-10 in high school...THAT was a small truck. My Colorado is NOT a small truck.

Well that brings back memories! My first vehicle of choice (not hand me down) when I was 21 was a black 1993 Hardbody Extra cab. It served me well with no major issues for around 100K miles when I traded it in for something. IIRC, it was around $14K new. My dad was proud of that deal because they came close to losing money on it (long story).

Agree, I used to drive Rangers, had several early 90's to early 2000's models. Then I got my first F150 and had all the mileage, all the comfort and more capability.

This is the very reason I bought a 04 Taco , The newer you get the bigger you get. Thankfully the size of my penis still allows me to drive a baby truck without LED headlights ..... :ROFLMAO:

My criteria for a "truck" is that it has at least eight bolts holding each wheel or pair of wheels on ;). Anything less is a car with a bed🏃‍♂️ (runs for cover)

Well, of course. Why run for cover?

All the mentioning of Nissan pickups reminded me of something...

Back in 1990, as a recycled newlywed (divorced, moved onto my 2nd marriage), I found myself truck shopping. There was a Nissan dealership near me, so I stopped in. I test drove their top-of-the-line 4X4 extended cab. I was about a mile away from the dealership, when all of a sudden the thing completely shut down. It would crank over, but that was about it. And there was plenty of gas in it. Used the phone at a house nearby to call the dealership. A car arrived with four guys in it, three wearing very clean white coveralls, and one in a suit. One of the Mr. Cleans asked me what I did to it, to which I informed him that I was just driving it, and it died. He then joined his comrades under the hood. Then the guy in the suit approached me.

Suitman: "I'm sorry about this. I hope this doesn't negatively affect your opinion of our product."
Me: "No, it's fine. I know these things happen."
Suitman: "Yes, things do happen. So, is there anything I can do for you? Can I give you a lift? Drop you off somewhere?"
Me: "Yeah. Sure, Would you mind dropping me off at the Toyota dealership?"

I bought the Toyota. :sneaky:

As a Gladiator owner I can tell you it is fun to drive, the top/doors off is a great feeling as it is in the TJ. The mpg tho is not as posted. True I will see 22/23 on the highway at 55 with a tail wind but actual combined mpg is more like 17. Mine is the max tow( didn’t buy it too off road much but it will town my TJ on a trailer) so it has the 4.10 gears and it’s on 33s. It’s also not as comfortable as a full size. I came out of a 1500 Sierra. I plan to keep the JT awhile but once we get my wife a different vehicle in the next year or two we plan to get her a full size truck because we both do miss the room. Leaning more towards Tundra or Ram, but will be used with V8. These new truck prices are out of my $ range!

Yeah, I do want to test drive one, but leaning towards a 1500 size. I have 3 boys, 10, 12, and 15. So I think they would fit fine in either. If all of us are going somewhere, we would take her Expedition with the third row seat which keeps the kids from killing each other.

Strongest contenders are the RAM, F150 and Tundra. I like the Silverado, but probably going to be eliminated due to having the worst gas mileage. I still need to test drive all of them and see which one I prefer. I liked my last two F150's, but now they are on a different model.
