Front Bumper Recommendations

I'm running THIS one and I'm happy with it.

It accepts JK foglights.

Is it the best? No.

Does it meet my needs? Yes.

I wanted full width and I didn't want a tube bumper.

Price has gone up a lot since I bought it a year ago.

Not looking for baloney, wanting brands to consider.

The other brands with that style are going to be the same exact construction.

And on and on. If thats the bumper you want and ET sells it, then go ahead. Its going to be no different between brand names.

If you really like the look of the bumper then get it. The great thing about Jeeps is you can customize them how you want. However, there are not many on here that will recommend any of the cheap Chinese made bumpers. They are basically a downgrade from your stock bumper and just add 60lbs of weight. If you just want to improve the looks of your Jeep while being budget conscious then cutting a stock bumper and installing a winch plate is a good way to go. Half the weight and a third of the cost of the listed bumper. I'm still running this on my LJ as I wait for the bumper I want to be back in stock. Lights are an easy add depending on where you want them. You can add a winch guard and put them there. Garvin makes some nice mounts that use the factory bumper bolt if you like them on the side. If you have some basic fabrication skills you can also make your own.

The generic Chinese Jeep bumper we see everywhere is the perfect bumper to show off one's unique personality!

I should’ve posted more detail in my original post. It made sense in my head but I left a lot to be interpreted.

1. Not wanting heavy Chinese junk parts
2. My thoughts were a bumper that would protect and support a winch.
3. I currently have two additional lights on the top of the stock bumper. My thoughts were if they are integrated into the bumper they wouldn’t get damaged while off-roading.

I like the idea of a winch plate on the stock bumper and possibly just fabricate my own winch guard. The info @fooey recommended from KD Fabworks is the input I was after.

Bumpers are to protect the rest of a vehicle if/when bumping into things. Sometimes bumpers are used to push stuff. Bumpers when used off road also do other things like rub against and slide over many things that aren't exactly soft.

Back in the late 90s I took my wife's 1996 Grand Cherokee ZJ out to do a little offroading, probably only the second or third time out. When I got back home the factory fog light mounted in the bumper was packed with mud and I made the mistake of hosing the mud off while the lights were turned on. Being covered in mud made that light very hot and the hose water cooled it so fast, the lens shattered. Yes I should have shut it off first but even if I did, the light was pushed back and the bracket was somewhat twisted. I'm sure the factory foglights mounted in front of the grille of a 92-95 ZJ would have survived a lot more use than that early trip.

Yeah, I learned the hard way to never have any light IN a bumper.

I followed @Jerry Bransford 's advice and I have ordered front and rear bumpers from Dirtworx. Not here yet so eagerly anticipating them. Made to order in the US and the front d-ring mounts are welded front and back of the bumper (apparently) instead of surface mounted. I ordered with front light mounts on the stinger bar, front hitch and logo/branding delete :D

I had one(the quadratec arb tribute)loved that bumper I bet I could of hit a cow and not hurt it,but it was just too heavy when I took it off I had to take an 1-1/2 spacer out of the front, thing weighs 300 lbs.with wire rope on a winch.

That's a good brand, I'd use a self-etching primer and Rustoleum satin-black to paint them. That's what I used on both of mine and it looks great. Just make sure to closely read and adhere to the directions where it gives you the intervals you can paint at. There's a short window for initial coats, then you have to wait something like 7-10 days to apply subsequent coats only after the paint has completely cured. If that's not done the paint will craze and be ruined.
