Can anyone offer advice on where to mount a 12oClockLabs SpeedoDRD J1 on 2006 LJ with an auto transmission?

Note: The cable that came with it is only about 20". but it can be lengthened if that is what it takes.

Yea - that cable's too damn short, and I didn't want to fool around lengthening it. Mine's under the hood near the brake booster. As often as I use it, its just fine there.

I run one on my Jeep and just tightly coiled the wires up, tapped the heck out of the tiny module and zip tied it off the transfercase connector harness mounting tab. It is out of the way of driveshafts, the heat of the exhaust and protected by the skid plate from snags.

If I am not mistaken they claim it is waterproof or water resistant, I don’t recall off hand, but I felt wrapping it in electrical tape for good measure wasn’t a bad thing.

My Jeep isn’t a daily driver, but it has seen its fair share of water and never had an issue.

That pushbutton may be an issue with water.

Can’t say I disagree, but according to their website https://shop.12oclocklabs.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=59

It states:
  • Weather proof design to protect against the elements
May no mistake I wouldn’t take it swimming but I’ve submerged mine more than a handful of times backing the boat and jetski in the lake and haven’t had an issue. “I say that now, watch it not work this spring when I bring the Jeep back out of the garage”.

Perhaps the fact I taped it up real well helped. But I also question the weather proof note because I could have swore I read somewhere (maybe the installation instructions) said to keep it out of weather. Then again maybe that was the radio I installed as I thought about rain and the touch screen? IDK

I too coiled mine up and tied it off above the TC. I’ve seen these on bikes just sorta hanging out so I figured why not…. BUT I’m also in California- rain / wet rarely happens.

Do you all get just the "SDRD-J1" or do you also have to get any other adapters?

I purchased the SDRD-J1. The cable that comes with it is only 18-20". Perhaps I should have purchased the bare unit, without cable, and built a longer cable. I haven't installed mine, yet. So I will see how it goes when I get to that point.

That is the one I purchased and worked like a charm. I am running 33’s with 4.88 gears and my Speedo was off nearly 10min (read high) depending on speed as it’s actually a % difference and I don’t recall what it was. After install and following the directions it is accurate reading at all speeds, 5mph-75mph I don’t push it much faster 75mph is almost exactly 3000rpm.
