I **usually** get my parts from Rock Auto. Like the steering gear box I got last year, and it sucks, The only difference between the old one and the new one, is the new on does leak. BUT I DIGRESS

Im looking for a fan clutch for my 2000 TJ, O'Reilly has *Murry* , Rock Auto has *FVP* —— *GMB* —-*GPD*—-*HAYDEN* AND *FOUR SEASONS*

which manufacture is better? What should I be looking for. Some say "Thermal heavy duty", some just say Heavy duty, some say "standard duty"

WTF? Help me out here kids. If you got another manufacture you like, let me know.

ok, just to be clear on this thermostat hole drilling thing?

I want a ⅛" hole in the flange of the stat, AND install it so the hole is straight up at 12:00 ( am or pm —-LOL ) If the stat already has a hole, do I want to drill it out to ⅛"

Depends on if you're in Austraila.
(Yes 12 oclock high)

I've installed two OMIX 17105.12 Fan Drive Clutches (for 00-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited with 4.0L) and both were made in USA and not excessively loud like the Hayden I had previously.

I will say absolutely put the new one in boiling water and verify it opens. And then preferentially pull it out of the water, hit it with a laser thermometer and watch the temperature when it completely closes.

I just bought a new Napa 195 and it opens and closes at 160. That 195 stamp was bullshit.

I am using this fan clutch with great results. HAYDEN 2791 Severe Duty . It is nomally for a 1 ton Dodge but works well on a Jeep. It kicks in much earlier than stock and my temp never exceeds the 220 mark even in 120 degree Arizona. It is louder but works so muck better.

So I tackled this project today. Oddly, it went remarkably smooth. I didn't break any bolts or anything weird.

I replaced both radiator hoses, the Fan clutch and the stat.

The only issue was, O'Reilly gave me the wrong thermostat, I could not get the temp up over about 175° its my fault for not checking the stamp on the stat.

But all is not lost, As I was putting this back together I realized I should have got a new thermostat housing. So in a month or two, I'll be in a better position to replace both the housing and the stat.

Until then I'll just live with what I have.

Careful with that...best case your Jeep doesn't reach operating temperature and the PCM adds fuel...dropping your gas mileage to 8...ask me how I know.

Worst case you wash out your oil with unburnt fuel and kiss your bearings goodbye.

I resealed my thermostat housing seven times before I got it right.

ok, I guess this gives me something to do on Monday   time to run back up to O'Reilly's and get a new gasket and housing, good thing I still have a half gallon of anti-freeze

Get two gaskets!

I guarantee that the new thermostat housing won't be flat. I used a bench top sander to plane my flat.

Check with a good known flat edge. And watch the torque. 12-15 ft lbs. Less and it'll leak. More and it'll leak.
