I have a Rinno650 FRS radio / GPS unit and my old eyes can't read it anymore!
So I'm hoping there is something out there like what my buddies Dodge Cumins has for Nav. about 6" to 10" screen Touch screen could be nice but not the be all end all!
I wondered about a boat type plotter?
Some one said to buy like a note pad and buy BC TOPO maps?? but would it show my vehicle moving well driving ?
Wouldn't you need internet?
Any idea's
Thx
I gave away all my B.C. topo charts about 10 years ago cause no one was wheeling any more around me. My neighbours bought one then two ,then I got one now 3 more neighbours are shopping for TJ's, so I'm starting from scratch!

cell phone capable iPad… this will allow you to use GPS without being required to purchase cell service… you can purchase a used iPad with cell service capability under $200, just make sure it has an updated operating system that will run the app you prefer to use… Yes you’ll be able to see your active position moving on the GPS in addition to either a TOPO or satellite map you’ve selected to use…
I personally use my cell phone and an iPad using the same or map at the same time or I’ll run sat & topo depending on terrain and whether I’m driving after sunset…
This setup is cheap and extremely accurate…

I use Gaia on my iPad with an external gps antenna, if you get a newer iPad with cell capability it has a gps chip in it.

OnX on a tablet.

You can save maps to use offline if you think you are going somewhere that may not have signal. And using the maps offline, GPS shows the path on the map.

Boat type plotters like fish finders are great, but tablets are much more versatile and user friendly. I have a Lowrance HDS5 in a car we use to pre run, but I wouldnt want it in the TJ.

I also use X maps, on my iphone. Use it for riding and hiking. I only buy Colorado, because that's the only offroading I do. One state of X maps is $30 and all states are $100 or so. Annual fee. I also carry a Garmin Inreach Mini. Can be used to text when out of cell phone and has Search and Rescue button for emergencies. Inreach saved my life last summer. Had massive heart attack while wife and I were in backcountry on foot and never dreamed I would push button, but had no choice. I'm 78 years old and carry the inreach when we are going out of cell phone coverage.Hang it from the mirror in jeep and on backpack when hiking. Cardiologist in Durango Hospital said no way I should be alive the next day when he went over my "incident". Several factors went my way that day.

I have a 10 inch touchscreen in my '97 TJ stereo running Android Auto and Google maps from my cell phone. My stereo is a Boss be10acp and I have a Samsung s22 Ultra cell phone.
