How to secure the '01 TJ with the top off:

I want to take advantage of the Colorado sunshine this year, and ditch the top as much as possible.

Of course the first step is keep nothing valuable in there, but I'm looking for advice about safe boxes and devices to disable it, or at least slow the thieves down.

I've heard of pedal locks or the club, but I would to hear your thoughts.

Welcome to WTF. The best theft deterrent is an ugly Jeep. Nothing else works. I put these decals on all of my vehicles to scare people away.

The easiest disabling device I found is to pull the ASD relay and put it in another slot that’s not used… Unless they’ve got plenty of time to diagnose why it won’t start or they have a tow truck to haul it off, it’s not going anywhere…

I pull the fuel pump relay and either take it with me or it drops into an empty slot next to it in the fuse box under the hood.

Most of the time I use only a safari top. I have a locking box in the rear where everything goes. But my jeep sees the trail and the occasional drive to work where I can park right outside my office window. If I have to go downtown I'll take the daily driver. CO was leading the nation for car thefts.

I am surprised they beat NJ for thefts?

NJ not even top 10!

I haven't look at 2023.

CO has been pretty lenient with those who have been accused of auto thefts. Only recently did CO pass a new law that makes auto theft a felony.

FUCK,,,, WA is #3... Just ONE more reason to move.

I worked with three different people that had their cars stolen out of their driveways in Pueblo. Another has a TJ that has been attempted 3 times. Somehow they can never make it any farther than the end of the block, with the most easily stolen vehicle on earth.

My cousin almost got carjacked somewhere around the Westminster area...at a convenience store right off of I-25, some guy ran up and tried to get into the passenger door, my cousin got to the lock button with a fraction of a second to spare, and GTFO.

As for me, I park in my garage and I don't take it to places where car thefts are likely or where a thief could get any alone time without attracting attention.

A co-worker of mine was victim to an attempted carjacking. He was at a King Soopers in downtown Denver. The second he turned on his car someone opened his driver door and tried to pull him out. He floored it thru the parking lot and the thief ended up letting go. Scary shit.

This is the best thing to do.

that's the key.

My understanding for the Pueblo area anyway is that once MJ got legal, the cartels needed to replace the revenue and their product mix shifted more heavily into opioids.

Of the people I knew whose stolen cars got recovered, they were always found in a state consistent with being used for drug trafficking activity.

Boy, am I glad I don't routinely worry about that. It might be so cold the air hurts your face here, but I don't really worry about having my car stolen.

you're not close enough to a major drug trafficking corridor, or at least too far up it.

On the list tworley posted, the only states that surprise me at all were TN and MO, but I'd wager that they're driven heavily by Memphis and St Louis, with the remainder of the state looking more similar to their surroundings.

#2 for Tuffy stuff. I have the Trunk insert behind the back seat, the console insert, an under seat drawer on the drivers side and the under hood lock. I do keep mine in a locked garage for the most part but, when i go out hiking I also remove the fuel relay if I'm parked by the trail.

Tuffy products for the Win...

I have their underseat drawer. wheelweel boxes and mid-sized rear drawer in mine now. Previously I had a Tuffy center console and underseat rear drawer. You can get the locks all keyed alike so you only have to carry one key and you can store most everything inside one of these items.

There is the kit from Off-Road Only that kills your ignition.
