Yep this brake kit is designed to work with an RVs air brakes.

What's everyone's favorite brake controller? Seeing a lot of Ready Brakes and Brake Buddy's for the most part

I have a brake buddy but it comes down to whatever you can find that's cost effective. They all seem to be pretty similar.

Looking at that. The black thing in my hand is those quick disconnects. The guy I bought it from gave me 3 pairs: the loose ones, and then the two other pairs on the things that attach using the pin. I think they call it a "base plate" that they attach to. The one made for jeeps goes around and under the steering gear and bumper. I'm wondering if instead I can put some new holes in the bumper/frame for these quick disconnects and avoid having to remove that baseplate or have it hanging underneath the bumper

Yes that base piece is what the tow bar goes onto. The 3 pairs are if you have the tow points that bolt to your frame but mount under the vehicle. For your Jeep I wouldn't want them since I'd be worried about them getting damaged.
To mount those base pieces onto your bumper I'd want some type of backing plate behind them. But I would be worried about the possibility of bending them too if you hit a rock or something.

I like the parts dragup posted. I'd add some bolt on shackle mounts to your front bumper and run those.

Does your bumper have front D ring / shackle mounts? I use these, and its so nice to not have something "extra" on the front bumper.

I also use the ready brake system, depending on how much extension you need it might add the length you need.

I don't see how I can connect this tow bar to those. This is where it connects

Yeah I agree the last thing I want is something that hangs below.

I was also thinking I'd need backing plates I've got some 1/4" mild steel I could cut some out of.

And yeah I was thinking that they might be the first thing to contact against a rock - I could remove them before wheeling if I wanted to. But I don't want to. If I've got 3 pairs maybe I just carry an extra set and leave them on??

I was looking at the rock jock thingy for flat towing. Those are probably more versatile and cheaper.

Might be a dumb question but. Does it matter if the bolt fits snug through that hole? I can't tell if those are bigger than the bolt holes for the tow bar it kinda looks like they are

You'll want it to be snug. They make 1" and 3/4" sizes on those bumper mount adapters.

I like the RockJock option too & from what they say it fit the Roadmaster towbar too. (I'd forgotten about the RockJock)

Tow Bar Compatibility:

  • Curt (RJ-19745 and RJ-70001)
  • Blue Ox (most styles)
  • Demco (most styles)
  • Roadmaster (most styles)
