Hey, just picked up a 2004 Rubicon. Can anyone tell me what the two brackets above the tail lights are for? These brackets have a large bolt mounting to the body. Googled it every way possible and found nothing.

Kind of hard to tell from those pictures, but looks like maybe antenna mounts. I have a Teraflex one on my driver side for my GMRS radio antenna.
I googled antenna mounts. They are similar but the brackets I have are not flat on top. It’s round like a door hinge. Maybe it’s an antenna mount, but then why two of them. So strange.
It is an antenna mount. Maybe they had two because one was for a HAM radio and the other for a CB. Or maybe they used one for a Flag and the other for a CB. They are definitely antenna mounts. You should be able to remove the tail lights and take them off if you don't want them.
Ok, thanks for the help on this. Guess I need need to start researching CB radios now.
They look like the mounts for an exo- style “roof” rack… @AndyG ?
That’s for a roof rack. I think you can pivot it up to open the top. A neighbor has something like that.
Antenna mounts, I have one on the left rear of my LJR-
Remove them if you don’t need them- they will start rust between them and the body.
"That's no moon..." - it isn't an antenna mount either. Since I don't know anything about a possible roof rack, I won't jump on that bandwagon, but it sounds likely to me.
I’ve got that rack. Bought it years ago but think it was called Safari rack. Brackets are still on my TJ.
