Utah Moab 2024 JuneFest 9th-15th

Me too, last year, but don't know where it is.
FWIW I was told by a Utah local that Jeeps are not OHV for this permit. I'll dig in again and try to confirm.

https://recreation.utah.gov/off-hig...on-and-permits/utah-non-resident-ohv-permits/

Maybe better safe than sorry but here's the text:

"Owners of any off-highway vehicles (ATV or UTV), off-highway motorcycles or snowmobiles brought into Utah by non-residents, must obtain a non-resident permit for their machine in order to operate on public land. To obtain a non-resident OHV permit, you must provide proof of out-of-state residency and that the OHV is not owned by a Utah resident."

If you're talking about BFE specifically, I'll step off cuz I know zilch about that.

I think I saved mine but have to look again. As long as I have it on my phone then no worries. If I don't need it no big deal.

Edit: Area BFE used to be a donation site to use and it was a fun area that some people had bought the land when it was possible that area was going to be bought by developers. Back in the early 2000's you just donated however much you wanted. But now with it being $100 per vehicle that is just crazy. The trails are nice but not that nice.

Usually we'll wheel everyday.

Many trails don't take that long to run. You can run Cliffhanger and Moab Rim and be done by noon, go grab lunch and see some sights.
Excellent.

I'm thinking I'll shoot for half day morning runs (guessing folks like an early start) and try to do the tougher trails alone in the LJ for those, then return to Sun Canyonlands (10 mi. north of Moab) and snag the girls (grandma and twins) for easy late runs for scenery and whatever pops up. We can do some medium stuff with the whole gang tho'. Pretty vague on my end..lol.
Girls are going to want to play in the pool and no way grandma's getting up early enough for her extended prep time (non-negotiable) + the time to wake the 6 years olds, feed and dress them in time for an early trail run.
We've been out of this particular part of the game for many years so it'll be a rodeo.
Plus some with families, like mine may not all be on the trail with me but can go do other stuff.
But someone may break something and be out of commission which also allows seeing some sights.
My thoughts for my crew as well. She'll have the tow rig to drive wherever needed.
Doing a trail like the trifecta will take most of the day.
That might be one I'd make other arrangements. This is all new to me so I'll take it as it comes.
Pritchett, with no waiting and no breakdowns is a grab lunch in Moab afterwards trail.

Your summary is just what I needed and it sounds like it shouldn't be too difficult to do all we need & want.

Getting jacked!

I didn't take a course or need to pay a $100 fee when I did Hell's Revenge and other trails in early November.

Is this for something different? (I'm confused)

The course is free and maybe not needed but not a bad idea either.

The $100 is only for area BFE

I’ll caution you that especially on Pritchett it has taken most of the day to get back to Moab as we’ve experienced many different mechanical failures, popped tires and waited on other groups that we shouldn’t have. I would plan lunch on the trails.

All of the trails can end up taking longer than they should and we won’t leave anyone behind.

My daughter @ 6 & 7 years old loved running around on the rocks whenever we'd stop or if I thought an obstacle was risky then I'd have her get out.
She had a blast chasing the lizards and stuff too.

Always bring enough water & food to last for 24 hours.... Never know what COULD happen..

I'm really not TRYING to be a pain in your ass..

https://recreation.utah.gov/off-highway-vehicles/education/ohv-education-faqs/

What types of OHVs are included in the course?

Completion of the course is required to operate Type 1 ATVs, Type II UTV or side-by-sides, Type III OHVs, and off-highway motorcycles. Snowmobiles and 4x4s registered as normal road vehicles are exempt from taking the course.

It’s up to you if you don’t want to do it. But it reminds you of basic things and it’s super easy and free. You may even learn something.

That must be new because when they first released this as far as I knew you had to have for a Jeep or any other type of 4x4. Since it's Free and not a PITA to take then it's a CYA thing IMO.

Pritchett is one I've considered skipping this trip (hoping there'll be another).

Fershur
and we won’t leave anyone behind.
Absolutely no question.

My one regret from last year is missing Pritchett. Changes to my TJ since have largely focused on doing that trail this year.

What changes have you made to help you do Pritchett?

I'm trying to learn a bit more regarding if my build would do ok on that trail or if it's something I should bow out on. I didn't do Elevator on Hell's Revenge because it looked like a bad idea lol.

Clearance, armor and gearing. My avatar pic is my Jeep last year in Moab. No armor (except mini skids and diff covers) and on 33s. It did well enough in that configuration but I thought Pritchett might be too much. Now it has rocker armor, beadlocked 35s, a higher tuck, engine skid, steering box skid and a 5.0:1 Atlas. Corner armor and rear frame and tank tuck (butt crack delete) are pending.
