Piss & Moan Table

OK the next day becomes page 2 of the same problem I just described above-

The same arrogant narcissistic worker that flooded the bathroom goes back to the same house the next morning and of course he’s doing a better job than anybody possibly could continuing to take the bathroom apart.

So I reached out to him and I said hey buddy - Is the water live in that bathroom still?

“yes sir”

OK stop everything immediately. Immediately turn off the water and get our own staff plumber and kill the water to the area from the exposed plumbing lines below just like I told you you should’ve done when you started.

Idiot.

There is a saying that the best people don’t need instructions and the terrible ones will not follow them anyway.

Talk about not learning anything.

That is pretty dense right there.

I struggle with this mentality constantly. We hire the best people we can find- We pay well- We pay for children’s school clothes- We have paid for funerals of parents- We train, but at the end of the day I have to personally be right on top of everything or it will go south.

The attached image is called a dovecote gable. The original intention of the design was to let birds nest attics by the holes created with the curvature in the vertical pieces.

Instead my guy actually made the holes-

Unreal ! , not to add to your plate , maybe you wouldn't mind offering an opinion. What causes " nail pops " in sheetrock ? and how do you prevent a return? Thanks AndyG !

Andy, I feel for you because this country has become a nation of lazy prima donnas (we used to be able to cull them because they were a small minority), but if this is actually from the plans:

And if I understand design intent correctly - board and batten, with holes centered on the battens - you need to lay blame on your architect or draftsman. The cutout piece you showed matches those plans - the proper way to draw what I interpret the design intent to be is:

How did we flood a basement? What was the root cause?

Self.

I have an older worker, seasoned, experienced, helpful and generally dangerous.

He lives to get praise and one upmanship.

If we start at 7 he will come at 6:20 and brag all day about it.

He paid less for everything. Negotiates at Mcdonald’s.

Works 3 days a week.

He was off tuesday, but shows up as we are deep in a serious structural load change at a job 30 minutes from where he lives because “he just had some questions” about todays work. This was more “yall look how dedicated I am” behavior.

Well man, the job is 12 minutes from your house, glad to pay you to go scope it out .....and please text questions.

So, with all this interruption of a 6 man crew I’m paying and leading, and forcing himself into getting attention for planning something that is not even happening yet, he failed to anticipate how to disconnect the water properly below the bath prior to start and left the bathroom live.

I definitely see the rationale for killing water and power to a whole area depending on what needs changed or who is doing the framing (🤣) but I'm unclear on this. Did the guy bull around and break charged pipes? Or somebody cut a charged line without thinking?

I work around live utilities all the time and i just need to be careful?

You are much more careful than the hired , know it all worker ! Unfortunately it's slim pickings in the job market.

It can be a combination of things-

Movement being primary

Not enough fasteners also will contribute to panel movement

In some situations adhesive is needed too

Typically if it’s the first year of new work you’ve got some kind of settling or change or shrinkage-

If you’re going to fix the area you need to go ahead and add a few screws on either side

Well he should have had the water off regardless- You can have an improperly seated fitting and the next person that touches it is the loser- You can have a line somewhere you would not believe for instance one time one was ran through the front apron of a bathtub that I cut into- Think about that- the front apron- A creative plumber was in a basement and needed to get water from one side of the room to the other.

In our case he dropped a sink and it fell straight down in clipped off one of the stub outs. PVC is horribly brittle.

Well actually the area in between the panels that has the circle should’ve been black and that would’ve been the answer to it- Wasn’t a big deal it was just ironic that their were two choices and 98% of the time guys will get the wrong one.

Good plan ! You better leave the Corvette out of the picture. Hope you guys have a blast and let off steam!

Well funny you mention that car- it’s kind of breezy today and that thing rides below the wind and I think I’m fixing to pull the targa top out in a little while and see if I can’t relieve some stress with my right foot.

I’m not a grammar/spelling cop or anything but, DAMN. Copy and pasted his from another conversation on here and didn’t want to criticize this person’s first post, but it makes me sad to see a twenty seven year old with such poor abilities. Or maybe it’s just cool these days?

i just replaced my battery after it sitting for a while, got her to start, shell stay running no prob but the battery gage drops to 0 after a few of idle or driving. i tested the battery volts after driving for a while and its at 11;56 did the test on the alternator its reading 11;15 what do yall think ? im stumped

At the risk of out-Zorbaing Zorba, it's what happens when the #1 mode of communication is texting and the number one device is a smart phone. Texting and smart phones have highlighted or created these problems:
  • Inefficiency due to typing with thumbs only
  • A small keyboard with no tactile feedback
  • A half-witted auto-correct system to guess at the words you meant to type
  • Users enamored with using an excessive amount of abbreviations due to the inefficiency of typing with thumbs, along with the cool factor
  • Users in too much of a hurry to proof-read their writing
Regarding the last one, it's not a new problem. Even us old fellers are prone to it: ;)

The language is being morphed, and eventually grammar, spelling, etc. will be permanently changed. And not for the better, IYAM. (see what I did there? Like I said, us old fellers aren't perfect)

Since I've retired, I haven't had to try to read the texts from the younger guys anymore. I'd see those and my heart rate would go up. My knuckles would start hurting as I'd have flashbacks of Mrs. Kuska's 4th grade class. Images of that old broad wielding her wood ruler like a club and cracking little hands with every mis-use of the English language uttered by a 10 year old still come back to haunt me.

My kids’ teachers are no better. Their emails have words missing, misspelled, poor grammar, incorrect they’re/their/there choices … but at least they’re decorated with emojis!

Soon we’ll all be communicating via Neuralink and won’t need language anymore anyway.

Before I moved my next door neighbor who…..whom is a school teacher spread table salt all over our common flowerbed. That was pretty devastating to all the flowers. School teacher. I always assumed school teachers were very brainy. Nah.
Since @sab corrected and made fun of this “OLD” man I just had to state I’m not sure if the correct use of who/whom is. 🫣😂🤣
