Hello, I’m thinking about selling my 1999 jeep wrangler Sahara. It’s an I6 4.0L with minor rust spots. The jeep has all after market lights, after market side steps, KC fog lights, and a new bestop soft top. Unfortunately, the jeep had very minor paint chips. The doors and part of the hood were painted to match the color, but turned out to be slightly off. It also has a barely visible patch of a different color on the rear. It’s a 5 speed manual transmission with an after market radio(stock radio available. The passenger side fender has damage, but the I have a replacement that would just need to be color matched that would come with the jeep, along with the original fender flares. The jeep also had a security system added to it. It has a 4 inch lift kit with new 34 inch tires. In addition, it has a SYE installed and interior LED lights. The jeep has 134k miles on it and runs great. Could anyone help me out of how much i could get out of it if I attempted to sell it?

In order to help you we need pictures. Namely pictures of the frame and underside.

Here are some pictures of underneath and the exterior, the frame was sanded down and repaints to help with some of the rust last summer

In So-Cal, i'm thinking that it's probably a 8000-10000 rig, but that price would be for a rust-free example, with a few good mods, or just a very clean stock example. Not sure about the market in your area, but Jeep TJ's are just more expensiver here (which is good if you're a seller).

Here's a few similar rigs for comparison:

Clean TJ's go for about 15k-20k here:

$6,000 if the frame isn't rotten. Sounds like the entire rig needs to be repainted once those damaged fenders are replaced to correct the mismatched paint issues. Paint job is easily $5,000

I would agree, I was also thinking 6k ballpark too if its not rotted, but ive also not been watching prices lately. Then again though, theres also regional dependent ballpark prices too, some lower & some higher.

Having a hard time seeing, but it looks like the frame may have been welded on around the usual rot area.. but I really cant determine from the photos.

I'm going to have to agree.

It may not be what you want to hear, but there's a lot that it has going against it and not much that it has going for it.

This is just my opinion of course. The market will ultimately decide.

The jeep also had a security system added to it.
That right there is most definitely a CON

Any aftermarket wiring done by an unknown (or Best Buy hack) can lead to eventual electrical issues and its NOT cheap to pay someone to trace electrical problems esp without the layout of the circuit cut ins

Just one guys POV who avoids any vehicles with aftermarket security or remote start add ons. Seen it waaaay too many times

As a fellow rust belt resident, everything I look for that someone could be hiding rust behind on a TJ, you have. In the rust belt, that vinyl/plastic stick on stuff is just a tell tale sign of rust underneath. Even if there isn't, the odds are still not in your favor to someone who knows Jeeps that will shell out what you're wanting to ideally get out of it.

Also those grills make me angry lol. That said, I've seen 4 banger Jeeps rustier than yours sell for 6 bands up in Ohio. That's the biggest thing; body rust and a repaint or two in it's life doesn't help.

The bolted on frame sections, with control arm mounts, is another indication of rust. Specifically, frame rust.

Deduct another $500 for the angry grill. 🤫 I'd list it for $7500 and see what happens. Prices are really low right now and lots of people don't know what to look for, so they don't nitpick. I sold my 99' with a bad frame patch job for $7,000. I told the guy when I was selling it, and he didn't care. He drove it for a few months and flipped it for a good profit. That was his plan when he was buying it.
