Turbo with 42RLE (overdrive question)

I have filed that stupid alteration under my list of shit that people too dumb to breathe do. Your extended index finger literally points right at that switch when you shift out of park and you're too silly to just move it 1/2" and punch the switch? Give me a fucking break. Do it 3 times in a row the next 3 times you drive your rig and it becomes automatic after that.

Haha 😂 I know how you feel about it. I don’t think it’s that big of a deal but I get it. I thought it was kinda nice to only think about my OD switch when hitting upper speeds on the highway once or twice a month.

And it’s fun to tinker. :D

I can't think of many things I loathe more than auto stop/start. Engine off, sit sit sit, oil pressure 0, then start go 3000 rpm. Stupid.

My startup procedure: ignition on, OD off.

It takes less time to toggle the OD than it does to type “OD off.”

Sure, but you spend more time toggling every day than you would if you just did the mod and let it be. I thought about this far too much last summer (and to your point, no amount of toggling will ever match the time my little brain burnt thinking about it).

In the end, I had fun doing it and seeing it work. We all masturbate with our time in different ways.

When done right, I actually love it. No point to sitting there and burning fuel and creating idle wear at a stoplight. My F-150 has it. It has an auxiliary water pump that allows for coolant flow with the engine off, meaning you get heat while sitting at a traffic light or even just at a gas station with the engine off and key in the ignition.

Auto stop-start engines often also use a cylinder-assisted start. When shutting off, they'll fill a cylinder with an air/fuel mixture and cock it so that it can fire the instant it hits a spark. That's why automatic restarts are so much faster than key starts.

Most vehicles also have an optional button to disable it, just like the TJ has an overdrive switch.

Can it be wired to auto-disabled? 🥲

Yeah, it might work for some folks, but I like my AC in the summer and heat in the winter. The fuel consumption is negligible at idle, and an argument could be made that the startup primeshot might consume more fuel than idling especially for shorter periods. Wear is also negligible on a warmed up engine, and the dry starts every stoplight are potentially doing much more damage than idling ever could.

I never have an issue with anyone tinkering. I'd know 1% of what I do if I didn't tinker. Just don't piss down my neck and tell me its raining. It is as stupid as a remote control for your head unit that sits in the cupholder so you have to reach further to pick it up than just turning the knobs on the head unit.

I don't think I've done that here, but let me know if I have.

Hello sirs. As someone who has had this setup for a very long time yesterday I finished messing around with HP Tuners on mine.

It is worth every f****ng dollar.
Once you figure it out (not hard), you can adjust it to your heart's desire.

I'm very happy

By that do you mean that you adjusted the shift points? PM inbound
