EV thread

Wife picked up a 2024 Grand Cherokee 4XE about 3 months ago.
She's put nearly 4000mikes on it and only filled it (with gas) 3 times. Her round trip commute fits in the all electric range and a trip to town is about the range of a charge. Depending on where in town we're going, she can top it off before the ride back. No appreciable increase in the electric bill.
Right now, she's charging it on 110v, which takes about 6 hours for a full charge.
It has all the bells and whistles and is very comfortable for longer trips. Seats are heated, cooled, and have massage built in.
We'll see how it holds up, but so far it's pretty nice.
I'm seriously considering an all electric for commuting and local trips if prices on EVs keep plummeting. The gas savings alone should just about cover the payment.

I read that and had a though, which gave me a headache :sneaky:, with all the ethanol currently in fuel, and with hybrids like that sometimes using so little, I wonder how that's going to play with the fuel systems. I can't imagine well since ethanol has a relatively short tank life and pulls in moisture. Just a thought.

Side note; I've had to deal with issues from old ethanol, and that's a bitch.

Damn, Hadn't thought of that! Thanks for giving me something else to worry about! I've had to deal with the "ethanol goo" in mowers and some older vehicles that sat too long. It's not fun but totally avoidable if you use non-ethanol gas in those engines.
For the wife's Grand Cherokee, It's literally not my problem. We don't share money, vehicles or responsibility for them. While I do maintenance and mods on her vehicles if she asks me to, she takes her new vehicles to the dealer, usually on a warranty or maintenance plan.
Off topic for this thread, but when I bought my daughter's Subaru, I added in the lifetime maintenance so I didn't have to do it- "Here's a car that should get you through the next ten years baby, Everything is taken care of, including maintenance."
BEST $1800 I've ever spent...well, maybe not the best, but I don't remember most of Subic Bay, sooooo....

A good thought. A little Sta-bil in the gas tank should deal with it, no?

While it may help pass it through, I think of those products as more of a bandaid. The best way to deal with it is either burn the fuel out in a timely manner, or use ethanol free fuel. I run ethanol free in everything I have that doesn't see daily use, or won't burn a tank out completely within 2-3 weeks.

Me three.
Sta-bil helps, but your gas will gum up eventually, especially in humid environments like Northern Virginia. 😒
I actually cheat and use regular gas through the summer, but switch to ethanol free some time in the fall before everything gets put up for the winter.

I'm not necessarily against EVs in the right situation. However, you can buy a shit ton of gas or diesel for what that thing costs. Until they start making EVs that make sense, their market is going to be limited. EV should cost under $20K for a short range version, a bit more for longer ranges.
