Yukon or Motive gears?

So Yukon master overhaul kits are quite expensive but look like a good assortment of shims over motive gear brand. What brand over haul kits do you all recommend ? Both kits seem to have timken bearings with is good. Same goes with gears what brand is a good quality brand or should I stick with dana spicer on gears? Pretty much no gears are made in the USA I am learning.

I only use the Spicer Master Install kits these days. I order them off rock auto.

Why? Full-size shims!!

Thanks I’ll look it up, does make sense why the full size shims. This will be my first time re gearing I’m kinda curious about this one. I have heard it doesn’t matter to shim on inside or outside tbe bearing. What do you prefer? Don’t worry this axle is out tbe jeep I will take as much time needed to get it perfect.

The Yukon install kits are good quality. Compared to revolution kits I’ve had the Yukon kit had a better selection of shims (I actually had to steal leftover shims from my old Yukon kit because I couldn’t work out what I needed with the revolution kit).

Thanks it was here somewhere that I had read of someone saying to order more shims as he had more of a selection.

Doesn’t look like that kit is offered on rock auto anymore, unless I’m blind. I need to rebuild my rear rubicon Dana 44, trying to find a good kit.

The Yukon kit on Amazon seems like a good deal YK Dana 44-RUBICON

Denny's Driveshaft should have what you need.

But the Yukon Dana 44 rebuild kit is good. No reservations about that.

Is their kit that much better where it’s worth spending the extra $200 from what Yukons cost is on Amazon?

I think the Yukon seals are lacking in quality compared to Spicer. I've had a pinion seal and two axle shaft seals go prematurely.

If I could do it all over again, I would order my master shim kits from ECGS (or Yukon), Koyo bearings from Rock Auto and Spicer seals from Rock Auto/Denny's.

Yeah, you can order the Spicer seals on their own, and I would. Again Denny's is a good option, but there are others out there. I think the spicer seal was like $14.

Seems to very positive reviews for revolution gears and I had very good results with them. The set up kit is not great as far as shims, the koyo bearings are good. I highly recommend their gears and just get some extra shims. If using stock rubicon locker ai believe only option for carrier shims is outside the bearing, between bearing and the housing. Most the gearing threads here are very pro-revolution gears. I got extra shims from east coast gear.

Sounds like the best solution is from what consensus is either snag the individual pieces to build the kit or get the kit from revolution with extra shim pack from ECG.

I believe that is what I hit, the issue ai had was really just with the pinion preload shims. Revolution master install gave plenty of shims for the carrier to get backlash and preload dialed in.

One thing I didn’t know prior to purchase is revolution gives a 10% military/first responder discount. If that helps anyone.

It doesn’t seem like revolutions kit comes with the inner axle seals, I’m guessing you sourced that separately?

For the front, they do. Only issue with the kit I found was lack of a variety of shims to set pinion preload, you could not change by .001, it was like .003 gaps

Looks like the kit I linked does not include axle seals, and fits both the front and rear. Makes sense since everything other than seals is the same between the two.

Thought I was going crazy but remembered the rear axle doesn’t have inner seals smh.

I got the kit that is front and rear with the gears and install kits, was about $675 total I think.
