Pick one up where they sell metal, then remove all of the extra stuff they left in it, like holes, cutout, extra length.

Looks similar, but a cleaner build, than the one I made a few years back. Works well!

I made one once out of a 2X4 and a couple of long bolts. It performed the same function (can't remember what vehicle I was working on), though it was a little more "caveman engineering" than I care to admit.

LOL I've been making my own fan clutch nut and pulley holding tools for years! Here's the very first set I made, in a barn in Vermont with a cutting torch and a grinder. It was for my IH 6.9 diesel. I was 2,600 miles from home and had to replace the water pump. Later I modified the pulley holder to fit my 7.3!

I wasn't smart enough to make the holes big enough to fit over the bolt heads back then, I had to remove 2 bolts then thread them thru the tool and back into the pulley.

I still have them in my junk drawer!

Fast forward about 30 years and I made a set for my Sprinter. The pulley tool for a Sprinter is nearly $100 for an after market brand.

Bins and bins of stuff for $1, $3, $5 and a few higher priced but still heavily discounted items. Some of the steals include fortener bits for a buck a piece, 14 and 12g wire spools for $5, 10lb roll of mig wire for $5, most of the hand tools for $3 a piece! Happy New Tool day!

Ah yes, the IH 6.9 water pump. That nut was HUGE! I had to borrow a tool from one of our ships. The chief engineer was VERY reluctant to let it out of his sight, and promised me a keel hauling if it wasn't back on board at 0600 the next morning. Needless to say, it was!

I forgot that part, but I can see myself using that tool in my memory's eye - and the way I was holding it would be consistent with LH thread. It was an odd tool, dunno exactly what it was called as I've never seen another one. It was like Channel Loks, but had jaws that would accommodate (large) hex nuts. Worked GREAT!

If I recall the left hand thread was noted on the shroud with raised letters. The rear axle also had left hand threads on the driver's side and were stamped with an "L". I still remember the time I was getting tires and I saw thru the window and heard the baboon with the impact hammering away on the left rear in the wrong direction and ran out there to stop him.
