New TJ Hood

For me I guess my biggest question is would it help with cooling?? The BS in the ad for it of course says it's going to enhance cooling but we all know this is just a sales pitch.... As Jeff knows the Hemi runs HOT so if it really does help with the cooling then IMO it might be worth it....

One other NOTE: It states that it has to be shipped to a business address.... Which for some might not be an issue. For me I'd have to have it shipped to the local body shop or something... Which is fine since I'd have them shoot it for me.

Well I just tried this out and I'm seeing $150 for shipping... That is a fair price IMO...

And that was using my WA address.... We'll see if I decide to pull the trigger on one..

I wouldn't write off a good fiberglass hood just because the one you bought used was crappy. You can't tell my LJ's hood was jammed it into the ceiling by a garage door leaving impression marks into the metal reinforced edge of the ceiling's skylight.

The hood has a small paint chip on the front edge and that's it. Zero dents, cracks, or warping. I'd say that's a hell of a testimonial towards getting a fiberglass hood if I'm ever in the market.

Yes the fact that it's steel is a huge factor...

Guys with hood louvers and an IAT gauge in their face while driving have an idea on what it will do.

I don't think it's going to be a game changer performance wise, but I'm willing to guess that it's similar to installing a hood louver...helps release some of the trapped heat when going slow or standing still, which will slightly lower IATs where it doesn't matter that much since you aren't making lots of power there.

It's performance is certainly not to be confused with what you'll see when running an intercooler. We know the thermostat temp rating is fixed, so our engines will run hot as intended regardless of a bit more air accessing the engine bay...similar to our louvers not being a performance changing mod.

And the performance gains will be even less for guys like Jeff who's intake accesses ambient air from outside of the engine bay.

My recollection of when had an IAT temp gauge in my face was that the hood louvers alone lowered the intake temps about 5°F. Increased airflow through the engine compartment is doing something.

I did reach out to them and ask about a highline version....

They replied that they do offer a highline version. You just have to ask them for it..... I don't think it will have the finished edges like a regular hood though...

I'm not looking for any performance gains just like in the hood louver thread it's the reduction of under hood temps instead.

When Jeep started releasing JKs (and later JLs) with different hoods (10 anniversary, etc.) and built in louvers I really wished someone would do it for the TJ, now that I see it, it just doesn't look to me like it belongs. I think a regular louver panel fits the TJ aesthetic better.

I personally really like Varozza 4x4 hood over savvy it’s just to expensive

Reminds me of the old AEV hoods. Those I liked. I don't trust the Chinese fiberglass knockoffs or I would run one of those in a heartbeat.

Edit, I actually just did a quick search as I haven't looked in a while, but it looks like there is a CF version available now, but I know nothing about it:

I would have no problem running fiberglass, but there are so many horror stories about fit and finish. I don't want something that looks like ass. My factory hood has hail damage and rust, so the advantages of fiberglass and CF are not lost on me.
