While inspecting my rear U joints, I noticed a lot of play in the rubber portion of the T case balancer/damper, and the part (5017819aa) shows discontinued. Anybody know of an after market replacement ? Sorry, forgot to add: 2006 tj x 4.0, 6 spd manual

Thanks
Ray

You’re going to have a hard time finding one. The TC balancer is a topic of debate. Anyone who installs an SYE has to eliminate it. Some years had it, some didn’t. Some people have SOLVED vibration issues by removing it all together.

I would say this: if you aren’t experiencing and bad vibrations, don’t touch it. But if you were to remove it all together, you probably won’t notice it’s gone.

Thanks for the info. Found one online, and it's 270.00+ with shipping... right now, not worth it. I'll start with the U joints first and see how that goes.

Update : the u joint at the T case had fine movement in one direction, and about 1/8 " in the other....pretty much 175K miles frozen.
Replaced both joints on the shaft and now it's super smooth with no vibrations.
Whew !!! Dad always said, "start with the simple first, then work from there"
