Where to store handgun in TJ?

Nice set up. I wonder if I can roll around in California like this:cop1:
Sure as long as you remove the gun and magazines. Also the knife.

Replace with this

I highly recommend this brand. Installed this in my F150. I can drive like an Ass and the gun never moves. It will hold it in place. It comes with screws or 3m adhesive strips. The magnets are very strong. It does take a bit to get used to removing it.

I also went with gun magnet mounts. Not these exact ones, but something similar.
Got a 3 pack. One for the Jeep, F250, and motorhome. They work great. Put them wherever you want.

I used to keep a holstered 357 under the driver's seat in my CJ5. The holster was secured to the seat bottom for easier access.

More often though, I had a Marlin lever action carbine in 357 butt down on the floor with the barrel snugged in between the seat back and the roll bar. I'll probably use the same place for it in the LJ if it fits like it did in the old CJ5. That little carbine is about the handiest gun I've ever had.

Well there's carrying and there's safely storing, 2 completely different goals. If you want to store a gun in your car so that you can more conveniently strap it on when you want to, this works nicely for me:

If you're going to carry, get a holster. I don't really see the point of mounting it on the car, because that's too insecure to leave it and you can only access readily from the drivers seat. I suppose if the issue is that carrying in your state is legal without a permit only in your car, then I might just put it - temporarily - in the center console in a pocket holster.

I do NOT recommend storing your gun in the glove box or center console even if they lock. In a lot of states that is potentially considered carrying, so for example if you get a DUI while the gun is "stored" that way, you can have MUCH bigger problems than the DUI itself, as in many states that is felony "crime with a gun".

Living in California, perspective is not always reality, as in "when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns"
My .40 in its case fits wonderfully under my drivers seat. Wont move, or hasn't yet on all the trails I've been on

This is a great question and deserves a lot of thought and consideration regarding the specifics of your needs and where you live. When I'm driving, my SnW40 sits very nicely tucked in the slot beside the 4WD lever for easy access. If I have to leave it in the Jeep (almost never), I have a ballistic nylon locking zip bag under the seat cabled to the seat mounts. This is only for those quick "step aways" where I can't carry, which is rare since I almost never go anywhere that will not allow CC. I never leave my weapon in my Jeep overnight, and never in a locked glove box or console. I truly appreciate this question since I have young kids and there is a delicate balance between being ready to protect your family and being safe and legal at the same time. Fortunately NC is a 2A and CC friendly state!!
