What did you do to your TJ today?

when I bought my son his jeep, (about 2 years ago) one of the 1st thing I did was replace the tailgate hinges with some Kentrol Black Stainless Hinges. https://www.quadratec.com/products/13114_10X_PG.htm
He went to open his tailgate today, and found the following:

did some research and found that it has a limited lifetime warranty, so tomorrow I get to call Quadratec.
as a side note he is running stock tires so there is not a lot of extra weight on the tailgate.

Unreal! Is that a crack, on both pieces? EDIT: just realized its the bottom hinge~ wow! I really thought that brand of hinge would be an upgrade to my blistering, unsightly stock hinges.

See, this makes me think that maybe an exo-gate for another $150 will be worth it. Except, I dont carry a spare....actually, when I trail I do.

Apparently I need to find the thread on this, read it and try it out. Seen people post abt it several times this weekend.

My pic was an in progress shot. That open spot in the top was filled too. I also didn't put any on top of the dome light either. Just filled in around the speaker. The ones in the dash got filled up. When I say filled, I mean loosely. I didn't just pack it full.

Kinda... They sell a grommet, but they only require a 1.5" hole. Mine is two inches diameter, so I'm sure it would fit. They sell grommets at Menards though, so I may pick a couple up.

Gotcha.

I bought Grabbars and I slightly botched up the driver side trim a bit when I installed it. Thankfully the grommet covered the mess up and I don't have to see it everyday. The passenger side I got it done neatly.

Spent a few evenings last week reworking the cooling system (new fan clutch, water pump, all new hoses and thermostat), then spent yesterday swapping the front coils for a new to me set of 4" Skyjackers with new jounce bumpers and cups. The passenger coil I pulled out had snapped off two winds up from the bottom and was not playing nice.

I bought a light bar bar so I can haul my kayak. In the description for it, it says it will work with soft top. Well, that may be the case if the soft top is an original or one with no sunroof. The bar will not allow one to just pop the sun roof up. It hits the light mount brackets. In order to use the sunroof I had to release the top to get it to roll back a bit, then flip the sunroof and re hook the top portion.

Yesterday we took care of that problem. LOL No more light mount brackets. :D I didn't need them anyway, like I said above, I got it to use as kayak carrier. :D

I tried bending them up at first. Still a no go.

So off they went.

This pic shows how close the top comes to the bar.

Today I had to repaint the bar. :D Thank goodness for old blankets. :D

Update- just talked to Quadratec ...they are shipping out the replacement, "next day air"
we shall see how it goes

As part of the quest to help my short wife and 88 year old father in law get into the jeep safely i tried these homemade paracord handles. Did the fronts a couple weeks ago but it didn't help much. She hangs onto it when we're driving around so at least they aren't useless. I'm actually still finishing the fourth one.

These were delivered Friday, but I ran out of paint so i picked some up yesterday on the way home from work. Had today off so i painted them body color and started mounting them. Easy on a 98 with no plastic trim, but auto parts store tools suck and my torx sockets from O'Reilly failed again. Unfortunately I started on the drivers side. I guess she'll have to struggle a bit longer.

The paracord was so much fun I made this a couple days ago.

I usually keep the back seat tumbled for grocery-getting ability but the bungee i was using let the seat slip right and out of the hole. I may be doing it wrong but this seems to work.

Don't get me wrong, this is no mall crawler but i do take it grocery shopping. And i did go to a mall a couple weeks ago for the first time in many years because that's where the microsoft store is.

I followed this to learn how to do it but i changed the measurements for the sport bar wrap. That's why it took so long, i kept making them too short because i wanted then tight. Bracelet buckles from home depot +1/8" cord. My wife really hangs on them.

I can't figure out the YouTube link o was trying for but it's how to wrangler.

I picked up a new set of fender flares for $75, they are 6" wide, I may explore going to a 63" wide axles when I swap instead of the stock 60.5 wide ones. I need to see how the tires sit in the wheel well. Now I need to get the stepson moving on my lawn. I just dont know how to motivate a millennial, I would have gotten a bucket of cold water in my bed if I pulled the shit he is pulling.
