Anyone here have a USB port that they have wired to be hot all the time? The 12v/cig lighter is only hot when the key is on or the jeep is running. I've already bought a dual USB port that says 5v and 2.1amp per port. I would like to be able to switch it on anytime. I think all I need is the port, a switch, and a 12v to 5v converter. Possibly a 10amp fuse between the battery and converter? Anyone done this or have any info that I may be missing? Thanks.

I have a two pairs of USB chargers wired to constant power. I just connected the two wires. They provide constant power. :)

Did you go straight from the port to the battery? No 5v converter or fuse? This is what my port looks like.

I have two of those. Both are fused, but no converter or switch of any kind. The oldest one is going on 5 years of being continually on.

What size fuse did you use? Did you go straight to the battery? Sorry for so many questions ha.

Maybe a 10a fuse on each. Yes, directly to the battery via an auxiliary fuse box. But you can just just as easily clamp the +/- wires to their respective posts on the battery with a pair of vise grips.

If those are designed for 12v, then they drop it down to the 5v that you want.

@jjvw awesome. That's pretty straight forward. I'll just add a 10amp in line fuse. Everything I was reading said I needed to a converter to go from 12v to 5v. I guess the port itself has a built in converter? Is that what you are saying @dbbd1?

Awesome. Thanks guys I really appreciate it! I'm planning something a little different to install the port into over the next week. I'll post pics when I get it. Thanks again.
