So I devoted a clicking noise in my front end. Removed the diff cover. Clicking is consistent with gear mesh. Looks like there is a rough spot deep in the groove on ring gear. Also whit is this pin? Factory rubi locker. 075F9E68-C130-4E92-AD28-A44D496546C3.jpegDA20F8D1-AB54-4F85-AA02-03A6D3B08731.jpeg

The pin retains the cross pin. It is supposed to move, don't worry about it. The gear pattern looks like that gear set is toast.

Ya appears to have been a lot of pressure on the gear the way the metal is gulled. Hopefully the rear looks better. Lol.
Will have them check the rear when they do the front.

Who installed the gears?
The previous owner had them installed. He told me they were installed by 4wp. Crazy they were quiet up until now? Can a bad install take a couple thousand miles to show any signs? Hopefully they did a better job on the rear.

Sent you a PM with a referral to a good gear and axle shop relatively close to you.

I missed that was the front which pretty much explains why it took so long. They weren't under much load.

Ok. I will have the rear checked too.
The previous owner didn’t drive it much on the road. And I only put a couple thousand miles on it since I have had it. Just hoping I don’t have to do front and rear.

Well while obviously the gear pattern is not good the noise goes away when locker is engaged. So looks to be a locker problem. Perhaps spider gears or locker not completely disengaging. Locker has not been engaged for a couple hundred miles.

Is it worth fixing or should I replace the locker as well?
Guessing even though gears are not causing any issues right now that I should go ahead and have those swapped out as well?

Also found there is quite a bit of free play between wheels when locker is engaged. They should be “locked” correct?

Here is a video of the amount of free play before the opposite tire turns.

Hmmm, not super familiar with the Rubi lockers but that seems excessive. DL have a good amount of play but not that much.

Ya. Seems like a lot to me. Was thinking spider gears maybe, but with that much play I dunno since spiders don’t turn when locked, correct?

Really sucks since I had money saved to have my fox shocks mounted and some other stuff done. Oh the life of a Jeep owner..........

If you're on good terms with the PO, I'd ask him for the receipt or even if he'd take it back to 4wp under warranty for you and offer him a hundred bucks and his favorite beverage for his time. Even if you can't get the receipt, I'd still try bringing it back since they should have a record of the VIN. It's clearly their fault installing regardless of who currently owns the Jeep, so don't feel like you're taking advantage of them.
