Chomoly axle shaft recommendations for LJ Rubicon (other than Revolution)

It'll likely be just fine. Just bring spares if you can. Or a spare outer to bolt up if you break one. The ears stretch over time, just mark them and watch for spinning/moving caps. They may squeak or squall when the ears are stretched.

Anything can break if you over-use the gas pedal when you're in 4Low. Just stay off the gas when the steering wheel is cranked hard over when the u-joints and axle shaft ears are under the most strain. That's how I broke an ear (the part of axle shaft that holds the u-joint) on my previous TJ's Dana 30. In 4Low, steering wheel cranked hard over, and a little too much gas. "Tink" was the sound of the ear as it snapped.

Do you guys think I can go on the Rubicon Trail with these axles and not break? Manual transmission and 35 inch tires

Yes, as long as you use your head and don’t bounce the Jeep around, and don’t get crazy with the skinny pedal. I did that trail with 35’s, a front Dana 30, lunchbox locker and stock axles, and a Dana 44 rear with a TrueTrac LSD and stock axles. Your Rubicon is already miles ahead of that, right off the showroom floor (you also have the better transfer case).

I’m in between Westgate and Mitty High School. Kind of thinking I might go to Hollister tomorrow, since I just finished installing my new wheels and tires.

I found this on Amazon on Monday night and bought it.

I just went through this. Ordered the rear shafts going to try to wait on the fronts. And wheel without them, or maybe buy RCV’s.

For some reason I don’t really like the idea of the RCV’s probably because I am so much more familiar with the u Joints.

That was my same thoughts till I found these.

Glad I found my RG&As on CL. I saved quite a bit of money.

After you deal with RCV's design you'll realize that it's dead simple.

I have heard from a couple people with RCVs that they begin to "click" after several outings. Have you experienced the same thing? I do know one guy who broke his RCV on the trail. Where clip/groove is located on the spines is where he broke it, he was told that it was a built in safety feature in order to save the diff/gears.

In my experience as long as you keep them greased every oil change and don't run larger than 35s on the TJ shafts you don't get the clicking.
