Update, I checked the slack on my 97 2.5L last month. I was getting misfire codes as well as too rich condition code. And running terrible when cold.
I measured 8 degrees of timing chain slack, decided to replace. Glad I did cuz the chain was digging into the snubber and the snubber metal holder on the timing chain cover. I should have replaced it when i bought it at 151k but just didn't know to do so.
Sprockets and chain.$60. Runs like a new 2.5L
