I made a low wood box. It has

carridge bolts which stick out to slide into seat brackets so it cannot slide forward. I keep the Jeep top on so it did not need to lock.

Why did they ever change from those perfectly designed wheel wells from earlier models? Easy to add storage to. Easy to mount to. Easy for shocks too! This stupid woopty doo shape makes everything harder without any single improvement that I can see. Had to be harder to manufacture also. Why?

@jjvw - this box I have is perfect (it's only 32" wide). I got the b idea from @MountaineerTom. See my thread in the Gear area, I linked his photos there. It holds quite a bit! The only thing I did not like about it was the cost but I had some prime rewards points so I did not mind. It's all Aluminium and only 17lb and after I saw it in person I was happy that I bought it.

The box is sitting on 4 hockey pucks and just barely clears the seat rails. I have it bolted down to the seat rails, see photo below.

I removed the latch/lock that came with it and installed a Bolt one (link below). The bolt latch "learns" your Jeep key. This way you don't have to carry an extra key.

Also, as a bonus for me, the recovery boards I bought a while ago for behind it just about perfect with a bungee cords around the handles. I'm really happy with this box.

This is the same box I have in my new Silverado and I am pleased with it. Mine is just a bit larger.

Bolt makes a replacement latches for your vehicle too - drill the UWS one out and install that and you don't have to have an extra key.

Those with an ATV box, can someone take a measurement of how much the open lid overhangs from the rear? Basically, how much room is needed behind the box to clear the open lid?

I am seeing these flush mount configurations with less wasted space under the open lid.

Hope you're never in a rollover.

Side note.
Keeping in mind, mines an 06 LJ. I found another factory mounting nut (on each side) under the tub. I had to drill a hole in the tub to access it. It could have been for moving the seat brackets back about 4". I used them to mount some tie-down eyebolts.

This is the one. Should be here mid week.

The flush mount boxes are too big for a little Jeep.

Keep us posted. Are you going to bolt it through the rear seat bracket holes?

I considered a 32" one made by Lund before going with the UWS. My local home Depot had one I could see in person. Perhaps it was just that box but I did not like the inside welds, there were some very sharp edges .. when you get yours take a look and you might need to take a dremel to smooth it out as necessary.

I plan to remove the seat brackets and reuse the holes in the tub. The reviews mentioned the welds and rough edges. I can smooth those out. This one was nearly half price, so I'll put up with a bit of fixing.
