What did you do to your TJ today?

It is metal and seems factory. I notice that it has straight sides and the Gentex needs a taper. It holds at the top region only.

Oh, I see. I'm not sure about that, other than changing it out to one that is tapered. Sorry I'm of more help.

Adding a picture. I hope this is a common problem with the early TJs. If not, then I have to get creative...

I scored a Bestop rear tire carrier on craigslist for $60. I disassembled it, roughed up some of the sun-fading, then hit it with a few coats of matte black rustoleum. Took a bit longer to instal because my tailgate was out of alignment so I got to mess around with that for about an hour... Overall, I'm very happy with how it turned out! Super solid carrier in my opinion.

I may have a chance at getting this. Not sure what it is exactly, but I have let my hubby know that I want it. LOL I'm sure the lady that owns it will pretty much give it to me. :D I may just have to pay for the fuel to go get it though.

Changed out the redneck ratchet straps for some proper Jerry can carriers and a new cargo rack over the spare. As always, it was not without pain and colorful language. The previous set up were cheap Smittybilt gas can holders. The new ones and the cargo rack are from Tuffstuff Overland. Stumbled across them online on their clearance page for half price - couldn't pass them up. Did a poor job removing the spare. Caught my finger between the rim and the tire carrier as it came off. Fitment was pretty good with a lot of adjusting and finagling. Had to take the grinder to the back of the passenger-side Jerry can carrier to clear the upper tailgate hinge.

I’m thinking it’s a M38 also. It has the large gas fill neck. Passenger side have indentations in the tub for ax and shovel? Those were on the drivers side on the GPWs

Is there a forum for these? If not, then Kimsjeep should just stay here and provide lots of pictures!
G503.com has all kinds of military but primarily the GPW. Pretty sure there’s an M38 forum, but haven’t been there for years.
