Hi, So I found a clean, rust free 06 manual Rubicon but I'm running into an interesting problem. I'm in Mass and the 6 inch lift that came with it will not pass inspection. Or at least my local guy said its too high. To complicate matters, it has a long arm set up so those original mounts are gone. I'm left with trying to find a place that will issue the sticker, which I think is unlikely, or figure something out with what I have. I've read enough to start to understand that I'm in for an uphill battle but I'm curious to hear what folks have done successfully. Any knowledge or feedback is very much welcomed.

Depending upon the suspension configuration, you might be able to simply put in shorter springs and shocks. However, if you plan to lower it long-term, you may have to do some significant other modifications.

Are there spacers on top of those springs? If so you can ditch those and immediately lose some height.

Thanks - I am looking for a long term solution. No spacers btw.

33s are usually run with 4" of lift, sometimes as low as 3". 3-4" might look more reasonable and get past certain inspectors. It looks like the legal maximum for you is about 2.5" (93.4x59/2200), so a 3" or 3.5" might pass. 6" is too much, and generally not recommended. Even those of us who run 35s typically only run 5", and 1" of that is body lift.

thanks for taking the time - I agree with your calcs as I did the same and also got to 2.5-3". Part of my motivation for hunting down an 06 Rubicon is that I saw one with 3-4" lift and 33's and I loved the way it looked. I told myself if I could find a rust free low miliage one, I would snatch it up and figure it out. If only if it was that easy. I'll post some pictures of the suspension in the morning. thanks again

First thing I would do is pull the springs and shocks and find out if there is a minimum bump stop needed for the long arms. From there, figure out what ride height results in a minimum of 4" of up travel. Get the right size springs, shocks and tires to create that.

So the bad news, it is rough country lift. The good news is website shows both 6” and 4” versions which look to be basically the same kit. So you might be able to just swap shocks/springs.

That was so I could get into my garage...

Man I can't quit laughing. I know it was a practical move, but man that's funny.

On the reverse, we've had guys down here lift them then not be able to drive out if the garage.

A company in Europe built a battleship and couldn't get it under a historic bridge to get it out to sea.
